The town of Wyse, set precisely on the border of England and Wales, is remarkable for one thing: it is the only remaining human town where magic works. When twelve-year-old Ava and her brother return to their birthplace of Wyse, they discover that their once magical town has been losing its charms under the control of Lord Skinner. Uncovering a working magic mirror, Ava opens an unauthorized link to the twinned town of Unwyse, where she meets Howell, one of the unlucky Fair Folk who is being pursued by the terrifying Mr Bones. Discovering that they are the joint guardians of a grumpy old book that can tell the future, the new friends are unexpectedly launched headlong into an adventure to uncover the mysterious link between Mr Bones and Lord Skinner, and to find out what's happening to the waning magic that connects their two worlds. From Claire Fayers, the critically acclaimed author of The Accidental Pirates series , comes Mirror Magic a magical adventure like no other!

We loved this book following Ava and her brother's move to Wyse after their parent's death.  They are invited by Lord Skinner who Ava's father had warned her not to trust.  The town is twinned with the magical village of Unwyse where via magic mirrors the fairies deliver gifts at the humans request.  The book follows Ava and her friend Charle's investigating the mysteries in the village.  It is a great mystery, adventure story.  My daughter loved this as she is a fan of Harry Potter and Enid Blyton so it was brilliant.

In this story a girl called Ava and her brother Matthew move to Wyse, which is the only magic town in Europe. Ava gets a job cleaning some magic mirrors, only they aren't actually magical as they aren't working. There are only six working mirrors in this town. She accidentally connects with a fairy boy on the other side of the mirror. Ava talked with this boy[called Howell] a lot through this magical mirror, before getting pulled into a strange adventure between the world of wyse and un-wyse[where Howell is from].   This book was easy to read and easy to imagine the mirror magic. I loved this book!

I was very excited to read this book with my niece, Magic in mirrors, doorways through mirrors into different worlds got me interested. I wasn’t disappointed, its a Funny and exciting story and even a little spooky in parts.

Ava and her brother Matthew move back to Wyse after the death of their parents, a small town on the border between England and Wales, the only place left where magic still exists. Conjurors demand magical items from the fairy world on the other side of their magic mirrors because of a magical contract made long ago between the fairy and human worlds. The people of Wyse are strange and nosy, Ava and Matthew's only family frosty towards them, and everywhere are cheap enchantments that make the place feel like a tacky tourist spot. Ava dislikes it, but she's determined to make the best of her situation and prove her worth. When a boy she meets causes her to start suspecting that their benefactor, Mr Skinner, is not the fine gentleman he seems, and she sees the face of a green-haired boy in a long-dead magic mirror, an adventure begins!

I would love to see this world developed further. Roll on the next book!.

I was totally enchanted by this story of Wyse, the only town left in Britain with a connection to the magical Unworld through special mirrors. Strangely, the enchantments that bind the towns together are slowly dying and nobody knows why until Ava returns to Wyse after the death of her parents. One day she inadvertently meets Howell on the other side of the mirror and they realise that something peculiar is happening. Nothing is quite as it seems and they don't know who to trust. They must unravel this mystery and discover what is causing this unrest before it is too late. Imaginative storytelling, bursting with wonder and magic make for a really compelling read. I was totally enthralled by this charming adventure full of twists, turns and the unexpected.

Clever, creepy, and gorgeously magical, with a heroine I utterly adored and really fabulous world-building. Set in a town on the edge of Victorian England and Wales - *and* the Unworld of Faerie - Unwise Magic has some of the fabulously magical Victorian atmosphere that I loved in Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, but the story itself is really original. It's wonderfully suspenseful, lean and fast-paced and full of intrigue, with characters I loved - a perfect MG fantasy novel, in other words. I was lucky enough to get an early copy, but the first time I tried to read it, I had to give up because I was so desperately jealous that I hadn't written it myself! I'm still jealous, honestly, but I went back to it anyway because it's so delicious, I couldn't resist reading it after all.

I thought Claire Fayers's first two books were both really fun, but in this book, she's lifted her writing up to a whole new level. I absolutely loved it.

This was a really lovely book and I really enjoyed reading it. I love books about magic and this one was extra good as it was full of twists and adventures. I really liked the characters in this book and I felt like I really joined in with their journeys. I have told all of my friends about this book and now they want to read it too because it was very good.

I read this as our granddaughter is 7 and I wanted to see if it was suitable for her age group. It's a lovely magical story with loads of interesting characters, a magical town and some exciting moments. I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult but probably won't be giving this to Kendra until she is 9 or 10. Love 'Wyse' and 'UnWyse' as village names!

We loved sharing this book together and the magic, mirrors and scene settings were brilliant. I think this book would be perfect for fluent older readers who could independently read this magical story to themselves in big sessions. Unfortunately with the stopping and the starting of night time reading, we appeared to have lost the potential flow of the story and would often become confused as to who was who and what was happening. I would certainly encourage people to read for themselves as judging by synopsis and blurb, it sounds magical.
