Once, in an old rusty bin in an old rusty playground in an old empty park.

. there lived a little tortoise.

But Tortoise is lonely. He's never seen any other tortoises, and wonders where they could all be hiding. Then, one day, he looks up and the night sky, and sees a million blinking lights winking at him. "That must be where the other tortoises are - at the top of the sky! I wish I could join them." But how can a little tortoise get to the top of the sky? And so begins a magical journey...

A beautiful, moving and heartwarming tale about bravery, kindness and welcoming strangers, from the team behind The Building Boy.

Beautiful, stunning, gorgeous...I could go on...the illustrations, just wonderful.  The story is poetically written.  Put together, we have magic!

Lonely Tortoise wants to get into the sky, where he thinks other animals are up there holding candles like he is.  The story takes us on a mammoth journey for the little tortoise, across the park where he lives, to get to the highest point he can see...once there he finds a friend and something even more magical...

Highly recommended for everyone.

We love this book! It is such a lovely story of a tortoise searching for some friends and eventually finding them. It has a sense of adventure and misunderstanding but the tortoise perseveres. The illustrations are lovely and really support the story.

We loved this cute book. The tortoise is a sweet likable character who just wants some friends. My daughter felt sorry for the little tortoise as he searched for other animals and a way up to the stars where he thought they were. We enjoyed the journey the tortoise makes across the park and were pleased he found such a beautiful new home full of new animals to meet. An enjoyable story.

My son adores this book and I enjoyed reading it to him. It is an exciting little adventure about a lovable tortoise. The story kept my son engaged and was the perfect length for him. We have a pet tortoise and he related to the adventure imagining the adventures his pet would go on. He enjoyed looking at the cute and colourful illustrations too!

This book keeps doing the rounds in our house. The kids are drawn to this quietly, magical book. With each reading, more detail in the illustrations stand out and we are taken further into the tortoise’s world. It’s a really lovely, innocent book and an enjoyable story.

My daughter liked this book but it wasn't what see was expecting, she thought the tortoise would of spent time in space. The pictures are a bit dark for a children's book. We read every night and unfortunately my daughter hasn't picked this one to be read again.

I had thought that this looked like a very suitable book for my three-year-old. The illustrations are lovely and the story is gentle but unfortunately I think the muted nature of the colours came across as a bit dark for her - she said it looked scary. When we did read it she found the story a little sad and I suppose it is really, despite the tortoise's realisation in the end. This is one of those books that I really wanted her to like but that she just didn't take to. It is excellent quality though so we will put it to one side and try again in a few months.
