A fun-filled retelling of The Little Red Hen with important messages about caring for our environment and working together! The beautiful apple tree is home to the Little Green Hen, who tends it lovingly every day - pruning, sowing new seeds and keeping the pests at bay. But not everyone wants to help. Peacock, Cat and Fox have far more important things to do - until the day a storm floods the countryside and the apple tree is the only shelter . . . Alison Murray's stylish adaptations of popular nursery rhymes and fables have been shortlisted twice for the prestigious Scottish Book Trust Children's Book Award. A lovely large colourful and inviting book. This isn't a hardback but such high-quality you can easily mistake it for one. I never read the original, but we love this tale of the little green hen. Sophie really understood the message of helping each other being kind and caring, working as a team.

This is a lovely book which is of very good quality. The pages are beautifully laid out with wonderful illustrations and lots of bright colours. My daughter enjoyed pointing out the animals she recognised. The book tells a lovely story about showing kindness to others with a nice ending.

I grew up with the story of the little red hen and was delighted to be able to share this version of the story with my children. They absolutely loved the bold illustrations, animals, and build up of the story, and as a mother, I loved the lessons about emotions, relationships, and consequences. A good sized book to, so ideal for sharing with children as they can all see the story without being head to head and barging!

We absolutely loved sharing this book together. I loved sharing it as I grew up with The Little Red Hen, but our children loved the full page illustrations, and seemed really attentive to the emotions, relationships and characters throughout. A good size book which could be comfortably enjoyed within a group without clashing heads.

This is a gorgeous book. When I was my children's age, The Little Red Hen was my favourite story and I am delighted that I can read this retelling, The Little Green Hen to my own children. My boys were captivated by the beautiful, bold illustrations and enjoy making up their own version of the story to go along with them. I loved the environmental message behind the story just as much as I loved the message teaching children about kindness, forgiveness, friendships and working together.

A beautiful book with lovely illustrations. A retelling of a classic that took me back to my childhood but with a lovely contemporary twist with a focus on the environment. A book that would be lovely for grandparents to share with Grandchildren - would lead to nostalgia and probably a few old editions being taken out of the loft to be shared. A book I would share at school.

A nice book which highlights the importance of not being selfish and forgiveness through a simple story about a hen in her orchard. The book is illustrated beautifully with a very striking cover. Ideal to share with younger readers.

It’s nice to get an eco twist on an old favourite. It’s got a lovely message of helping each other and of looking after the environment. The artwork is really striking. The colours are beautiful and bold and helped to hold my daughter’s attention. We enjoyed reading this together.
