I read this to my son, aged 7, over a period of weeks and he absolutely loved it, sometimes reading bits out loud by himself. Roald Dahl is a masterful storyteller, full of fun and surprises.

My youngest is attempting to read all the Roald Dahl books just now. We reserved this edition at the library and were pleasantly surprised how easy it was to share between us as it's that bit bigger than an average paperback. The story is heartwarming, James whose life with his aunts is so very terribly lonely and finding himself on a giant peach with some unlikely friends and having an even more unlikely adventure. My two love mini beasts so think they liked hearing from all the insect characters. The cloud men added a good bit of drama. We enjoyed it and loved the ending. The illustrations in this edition are especially lovely.

We are currently going through a Roald Dahl phase. I have been reading them at bedtime to my son. I have found the larger sized, illustrated versions work best. My son has been enthralled by this one. He hated the Cloud Men, rather liked the Centipede, probably because he was a bit of naughty 'pest'. He recognised some of the songs from Roald Dahl's Songs and Verse, was quite impressed that these were part of something much larger. I wish Roald Dahl had written even more than he did.

Roald Dahl is one of my favourite childrens authors. This book is funny and quirky with some amazing characters. Follow James on his adventure to eat his way through the giant peach with his new friends he meets along to way. A lovely heartwarming tale. Highly recommended!

Fantastic adventure book, wonderful illustrations. I remember as a kid trying to figure out how to make a peach grow really big, alas I was never successful. In Ronald Dahl's usual style he manages to transform ugly bugs into loveable characters.... Something Kafka failed to do. :)
