A picture book designed to inform and reassure children who are starting school.

Archie and his big sister Amber are two of the Shady Bay Buddies who live in the close-knit community of Shady Bay Island. Archie is starting school and wondering what to expect. Amber reassures him that it will be fun. We join Archie as he gets ready for school, meets his teacher, Miss Whimsie, and enjoys lots of fun activities on his first day. He even makes a new friend called Woolie. This delightful picture book, with adorable crocheted characters designed and made by Emma Brown, will become a firm favourite with young children as they embark on that all-important first day at school.

We really enjoyed this book, the story is pretty simple with Archie starting school and all about his first day but this is just what children at that age need, an easy to understand but entertaining story.

Its the pictures that made the book for us, the characters and back drops are all hand made with bright vibrant colors that really stand out, thier is also a bunny to be found on every page adding to the fun.

Overall my 3 year old really enjoyed this book amd it opened up a converstion about school and how she feels about starting nursery.

This is a Brilliant story for children who are starting school. The story is all about Archie's first day of school and all of the activities he does. My daughter enjoyed me reading it to her as the story was relevant for her starting big school. The book has lovely illustrations of knitted characters and the words flowed nicely.it was a simple read and not too long or too short so perfect for bedtime.

This is book does what it says on the tin, it follows Archie on his first day of school. With V in the same position we thought it would be good to read together before she started full time.

This book was simple in it's structure but I suppose when V gets a little older she can read it herself and it also helped being not too complex as many children just need a simple explanation as to why school isn't scary at all! It broke down the various parts of the school day and showed that she, like Archie would just be having lots of fun and making friends!

V also liked the spot the teddy on the page feature of this book which is a bonus and the book is beautifully pictured. I would definitely recommend this to school age children who may be a bit nervous for their first day.

As a teacher, I think they things addressed in this book are spot on and will be reassuring for children and parents alike!
As a mum, I personally loved the pictures and thought they were very sweet. My son liked looking for the bunny on every page. I can see us getting this out next summer as we prepare for school.

This is a simple story about starting school. I read it to my 3 year old who is annoy to start preschool and the book is just as relevant, if not more so,  to starting nursery/preschool.

The book follows Archie as he gets ready for school and through all of the activities he does at school. It doesn't address issues such as being the smallest amongst a sea of big children, which might be a worry to some children.

The illustrations are bright and simple,  enough to see without being too busy abs detracting from the text.  The characters are crocheted and I kind of wish the pattern for the toys was included in the book or at least a link to where it might be available.

All in all a simple book for small children. Nothing taxing, no surprises or humour, it's not rhyming text, just a straight forward simple insight into what to expect at school or preschool.

My daughter enjoyed it. I've given 4 stars because this is my 3rd child so I've seen several similar books in my time to compare it to.

I borrowed this from a friend to read to my son as he is starting year-one, and this book really helped him prepare for starting big school. The book mentions lots of things that kids will have to do at school - such as put their bags away, have snack time, reading before hometime, etc.... And my son found that comforting. The illustrations are unique. We really enjoyed the book.
