A bestselling story about confidence, self-esteem, and a shy little mouse who sets out on a journey to find his roar. In a dry dusty place where the sand sparkled gold, stood a mighty flat rock, all craggy and old. And under that rock in a tinyful house, lived the littlest, quietest, meekest brown mouse. Fed up of being ignored by the other animals, Mouse wishes he could roar like Lion. But, as he discovers, even the biggest, bossiest people are scared sometimes ... and even the smallest creatures can have the heart of a lion! A modern classic, The Lion Inside has sold over 200,000 copies in the UK alone and been translated into over 30 languages worldwide. "A heartfelt message, delightfully conveyed." Parents in Touch "Captivating." Books for Keeps "A delight to read over and over again." WRD

My son was recently read this at school and came home and told me all about it, so I brought it for his birthday.
We read it together tonight and it is a lovely story that teaches children that although something may look scary it's not always and to have courage. It reminded me a little of 'The Gruffalo'.

One of our favourite books, my two year
Old has yet to notice the hidden message of "we are all a little lion and mouse inside" but I know it's sinking in subtly. The bold artistry is fabulous for captivating young minds through the story and my
Son loves the rhyming wash to follow pages

Great book for little ones as well as, I suspect, those learning to read.  The rhyme is good, there aren't too many words which means little ones can turn the pages regularly to maintain interest, and the colours are vibrant.  Nice moral to the tale as well.  The story mainly revolves around a lion and a mouse, but I won't spoil the story.  Delightful even after the tenth reading of the day!

Living on top of an outcrop of rocks on the African plain, Lion appears popular and confident. In comparison, the gentle, quiet Mouse living below the rock is often ignored or forgotten by the other animals. In a bid to get noticed, mouse determines to learn how to roar instead of squeak in order to get noticed with the others.... and he ventures up the rock to the only person who can teach him how.... even if there is a risk he might end up being a snack for the lion! On arriving, the mouse finds that despite all lion's confidence.... even he is afraid of somethings sometimes.  A tale of unlikely friendship, finding your voice, being unafraid to pursue a dream even though you're aware of potential perils and leveraging your strengths as part of a team. Sure to be a children's classic. It's been a nice one to talk about and compare to Aesop's Lion & Mouse tale (which we'd had for Christmas)

This is a great story with a great message. The rhyming structure makes it easy and enjoyable to read. My daughter loves it as she can join in with the roars and squeaks

This is a fabulous book about finding your own lion inside. I read it with my two-year-old daughter and she seemed a bit scared of the lion - especially on the page where he lets out his almighty roar - but it was a sort of enjoyable fear! She loved hiding from the lion then peeping out to see what happened next. It's a good strong moral tale with a simple but powerful message for children. We keep coming back to it.

No matter your size, we all have a mouse AND a lion inside. One of my favourite picture books of all time, The Lion Inside is an utterly feel good story about one little mouse trying to make himself heard and noticed among the other animals and discovering along the way that even the smallest of us has the heart of a mighty lion. Bright’s rhyming is on point and Jim Field’s illustrations are fantastically quirky! The contrasting personalities of the mouse and lion are so effortlessly expressed through the tiniest details. Important messages of bravery, finding your voice and making friends with the most unlikely of animals! If you’ve read and loved Rachel Bright be sure to check out her other books, The Koala Who Could and The Squirrels Who Squabbled.

Initially, I was hesitant to buy this book for my sons because from the title I thought it would be another generic story about finding a lions courage - but we actually really enjoyed the book and I really enjoyed reading it!

Mouse lives under a rock, which is of course dominated by Lion, the noisiest and most powerful animal in the animal kingdown. Each day, mouse lives in the shadow of the Lion's roar. All the other animals ignore him, sit on him and treat him like he's invisible. So Mouse begins practising his own roar.

At this stage, I have to say we had great fun making the sounds of mouse trying to roar in our squeakiest pitches ever.

I won't spoil the end, but mouse does find his courage and his roar - and a new friend at that!

Fabulous illustrations but one of our favourite illustrators - Jim Field.

Lovely book and we bought it for a present for somebody else :)

We loved this beautifully illustrated easy to read book. A rhyming story, great for bedtime chats. This is a good way to subtly show your children how we can overcome our worries and the benefits of achieving this. A tiny little mouse finds his inner roar!

This is a lovely rhyming story about a timid little brown mouse who just wants to be heard. As he sets off on a journey to find his roar he realises what he needs to do if he wants things to change. It has a really positive message about finding courage and bravery. Leo really enjoyed the brilliant illustrations, particularly the mouse with his big eyes and ears.

My eldest likes this book but it's not a particular favourite. Mouse wishes he can be like the king of the rock but little does he know that lion has a secret phobia of mice and isn't the bravest of creatures as mouse thinks. Great message that we all have a Lion and a mouse inside and lovely rhymes which as a reader is nice to read but no real humour which would have made it perfect.

A mouse who is trodden on and ignored tries to learn how to ROAR so he can be noticed. He has to go to the big Lion to get him to teach him, but the lion is scared of the little mouse! The mouse reassures the mouse he is a friend and they become friends....

"We all have a mouse, and a lion inside"

It's not the best book, we found it quiet boring, it didn't make us laugh either. The illustrations were ok. Meh.
