Have you ever wondered why the moon shines in the night-time sky?

As the moon waxes and wanes above, the world below is full of busy night-time creatures; from turtles laying their eggs on white sandy beaches, to migrating birds using the moon to navigate their way to sunnier climes. Turn the peek-through pages to see the moon change shape as it goes through the lunar cycle.

I absolutely LOVE this book, the feel of the cover is textured so gives a great feel of the wilderness to it, the peek through section is great and the story it tells is informative but not too deep for my 3 year old.

My daughter adores the moon and will look out for it each night getting ever so excited that she can see it. She will tell me if it's a full moon, half or crescent moon. This book is wonderful to extend her interest further. She loves the shinny moon and its texture. The book is set out with lots of beauty and very engaging. It creates a wonderful image of all the different habits around the world. I love that it shows how we're all under the same moon and offers comfort. It's very thought provoking and offers lots of discussion. My daughter will often wonder why some nights we can't see the moon and this book shows this in the moon cycle. Definitely one to treasure.

Oh this is an amazing book. I love hardback books the best. This one really has a vintage rustic feel. It's perfect for Autumn by the fire cuddled up in blankets with a hot chocolate. Sophie loved it, she was completely drawn to the cut up luminous moon shapes and colour sparkling through. It's a lovely rhyming sentence per page. With endearing illustrations. Sophie loves the penguin page the best. I love the learning of the lunar cycle, it's done in such an elegant simple way for such a complex subject matter. I love this book very much and so does Sophie. This is the second book we've had from this author, everybody's welcome and bee. Will definitely be getting more.

My son loved the peek-through pages seeing the same beautiful moon in all the pages, but with the moon changing shape (crescent, full moon, new moon...). Such a lovely idea and we liked seeing how every page shows a different part of the world and with various night-time animals for us to spot. We can see there's so much happening during the night time, like the turtles moving ashore to lay their eggs, birds migrating, animals from the desert... Also, it's perfect timing to read this book now in Autumn, since it's getting dark earlier and my son can see the moon changing shape. I also liked that with the moon being the same, it makes it easier for me to explain to my son that we only have one moon and that's the one seen all over the world.

As soon as I took this book out of the packaging, I fell in love. As a parent looking at this book I think the lllustations are beautiful. My daughter was particularly impressed with the cut out moon that glistened on each page. Aesthetically the book is very pleasing. I was happy to find that the content of the books was to just as high a standard. Each page shows a different part of the world depicting animals they would love there. Our favourite was the Arctic with the penguins. And alongside this the moon shines in the night sky and shows a different phase of the moon. The text is short and simple, great for capturing the attention of young children. Evie said she gives it 10/10!

A beautiful book to share especially at bedtime. Would make a lovely gift. For us we have recently been learning about the moon and this book was a delightful alternative to show the lunar cycle away for our non-fiction books.

Lucy aged 4. Beautifully illustrated with the sparkle moon. We live in the country and often see clearly the moon in different states. It is a difficult concept to have only one moon for the whole world. It was very simple explained as to what is happening. Most children relate well to animals and as it happens Lucy has watched the documentary on the turtles.
The wording was very age appropriate and my 6 year old was trying the words.
I read this to Lucy as she is not yet at school.
Like the lovely hard back cover.
Always a big hit when they ask to have it read again.

The illustrations in this book are absolutely beautiful. My boys loved the peek through pages, and seeing the moon grow bigger and then smaller. We recently visited an observatory, and have been talking about the changing moon, so this book was a perfect follow up to that.

What a wonderful book for Autumn. We have been looking at Autumn and how season change which had lead on to animals getting ready for winter. The children enjoyed turning  each page to see what animal would be next. With us living near woods the first page was ideal and engaged them all straight away. Owls, deers and foxes. Loved how it
Covered all over the world
So was an animal that interested my group of 10 children aged 3-4. We also noticed the moon changing so gave us chance to talk about the moon's  lunar cycle.

We were lucky enough to win this book through Toppsta and what a lovely book it is. It provides a great stimulus for discussion about the waxing and waning of the moon, the different animals and habitats shown across the world and the illustrations are beautiful. My two children enjoyed the book and I'm looking forward to sharing this with the children who attend my Forest School too as it will provide the basis of lots of lovely activities in our 'nighttime' theme. Thank you very much Toppsta and well done to the Author and Illustrator Britta Teckentrup.

This is a very high quality, beautiful hard back edition. The way it has a cut out so that you can always see through to the silvery moon makes it seem extra special. My very nearly-three-year-old didn't quite engage with it as much as I thought she might (she is obsessed with looking at the actual moon) as she was so interested in the mechanics of the cut-out and the touching the glittery moon that she didn't fully engage with the story (which is lovely). I tried on a number of occasions but she wanted to hold the book and touch the cut out, rather than listen to the story. Hopefully, when this novelty eventually wears off we will be able to read it properly together but in the meantime she's enjoying it for its looks rather than the story!

As soon as I took this book out of the bag I fell in love. The feel of it is gorgeous and being hardback it’s nice and sturdy (easy to rest one leg and use one hand while cuddling with other hand). My little girl loved (and was slightly obsessed by) the beautiful shimmering moon, that changed shape on each page.

She also loved looking at the animals, particularly the penguins. Because obviously the book is set at night some of the pictures are a little dark and she had some trouble trying to find the scorpion.

Overall a beautiful book and a gorgeous poem.
