5 stars
We first meet Ella as she's writing out the invitations for her birthday party and then heads out to deliver them to her friends houses. While she strolls through the woods, one accidentally falls out of her bag and amongst some toadstools. She continues on her journey completely unaware that her invitation will be found by a foraging wizard! He unfortunately looses the invite too after reading all about the party... it is found and lost six times in total by a variety of fairytale inspired characters, until it miraculously lands back inside Ella's bag. There is an extra twist to come!
I've given this story five stars firstly because the children in my class voted overwhelmingly for this as their story of the day purely from the cover (none of them had heard it before. They had a choice of two). Secondly because they all liked the story by for different reasons. After finishing the book, we had quite the discussion on why they did or didn't like the story and they each explained that they did because of specific characters, phrases that they'd heard the characters use or the beautifully illustrated landscapes - which led to a whole new debate. Thirdly, I feel that the 'birthday' theme for a picturebook is very relevant to the class I read this to (aged 3-4) because they are very aware of and excited by their own birthdays and those of their immediate family/close friends.

A lovely rhyming story about Ella going to deliver her party invitation to her friend. Along the way the invitation gets blown to many different characters which leads to Ella getting a big surprise when she opens the door to her guest.

This is a well thought out book with lovely illustrations.

This is a good book, great illustrations too. Ella is on her way to give out her birthday invitations when one drops on the floor. It’s found by a wizard, pirates and even makes its way to a knight. When the party comes around Ella is in for a surprise when she goes to the door. Lots of fun to be had in this story which my little boy really enjoyed.
