A lovely rhyming book, This is the Bear tells the story of a bear who goes missing. It's a delight to read at bedtime as the gentle rhythm is soothing for younger listeners. We love the illustrations too, which capture the emotions of the characters in a way that younger readers can understand.

This is a great little story for younger children. It's about a bear who gets thrown away and searched for high and low and then gets found again. My two little ones loved it, as did I. A really sweet story and a good book when they are learning to read.

This was my son’s favourite book for about 6 solid months when he was younger; he still enjoys it now but we read it predominantly for my daughter who’s two.
It tells the tale of a beloved toy bear who is put in the bin my the mischievous family dog and taken to the dump! Happily his boy (with the dog in tow) follow on to retrieve him, where the dog redeems himself by sniffing him out. They all head home; the bear is given a good bath and appears to have enjoyed his adventure.
The text is perfect for young children; there’s only a couple of lines on each page and each double-page spread begins with “This is the...” The repetition helps keep children engaged and encourages their listening skills. The rhyming prose makes it a pleasure to read out-loud; it has excellent rhythm!
The illustrations are lovely; they’re colourful and largely set against a white background so they stand out. They demonstrate whst’s happening in the text which is ideal for young children. There are occasional speech bubbles from the characters that expand on the text that my four year old takes an interest in and finds funny. I think they’re a nice addition to add interest without being too much.
This is a must-read for young children and I think due to the format of the text and simple language it’ll be an excellent book for young readers.

A comforting story about a bear who goes missing and the adventure he has along the way. Lovely sing songsy rhymes and accompanying soothing pictures- my eldest particularly likes how there is additional text in speech bubbles on each picture to add to the story. Great for young children, we must read the others in this series!
