Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London's West End on 30th July 2016. It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

Could not put this book down!! Another masterpiece from the Harry Potter world. JK Rowling never fails to capture her audience straight away. I was fortunate enough to see the play and words can't even describe the magic and talent you see on the stage!!! Love, love, love!!!

I love this book and it is probably my favourite of the Harry Potter series (and they are my favourite books of all time). You should not be put off by the fact that it is a script as (in my opinion) it doesn't make any difference to the story as a whole. Overall it is a great read and is a must for Harry Potter fans.

I enjoyed the story and I think it was cool to bring Cedric's family back into it. I thought it was funny how Harry handled being a parent and I liked that eventually the Malfoys and the Potters became friends.

This is not another Harry Potter book. It is a script for a play based on the children of Harry and Ginny (Albus), and Malfoy (Scorpius) who are unlikely best friends. Albus feels the pressure of having a famous father and doesn't live up to expectations. Like the Harry Potter stories the boys are drawn into an adventure, involving many familiar characters and magical places.
The idea of setting the story about these characters is a clever one because it immediately seems familiar. It takes a bit of time to get used to reading a script rather than a story but once you do it's a fast read and quite an emotional adventure. Harry Potter fans will not be disappointed.

When I heard that there was going to be an 8th Harry Potter book, I was over the moon. I couldn't believe it! I had to get it. The second I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I loved it! This story is a little bit different to the other Harry Potter books. The story revolves about Albus Severus Potter, Harry's son. Also, it is written in a play format, which is a little difficult to get your head round to start, but after a bit, you get used to it. This book was amazing. If you haven't read this set of books, then you're missing out big time.

Another fantastic Potter book.  Everything that the others are fast paced, exiting, action packed and based on friendship.
I loved that it's set as a play, Bellboo seems to be finding it easy to read and follow too.
So sad that JK Rowling says that this is the last one.

Great new story for anyone missing reading the Harry Potter series. Takes the story in a new direction and creates the start of a new story. Even though it is the script for the play it is still great to read.

Read this in a couple of days. It felt shorter than the later books the original series, and in some cases somewhat rushed, however this is almost certainly due to the fact that it is a play and has to be performed in approximately the time it takes to read. The format means that it loses some of the more descriptive text of the novels, but gets around this by falling back on familiar environments previously covered in the series. All this didn't take away from the fact that the plot is riveting, and the new characters are instantly welcomed into the overall story arc. A welcome addition to the canon, and whilst I now really want see it on stage I can't help thinking that I may have enjoyed it more as a novel.

The Cursed Child Book Review By 'X'
It was July 21st 00:01. Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, which was at the time, thought to be the 'last' Harry Potter book after the series had produced 15 billion pounds as a brand. However, 9 years and 10 days later, another book was released, as a play.

John Tiffany, an award winning theatre producer to successful productions like 'Black Watch' and 'Once' and Jack Thorne, a playwright who has written the BAFTA award winning 'This Is England,' 'Don't Take My Baby and 'Fades.', BAFTA or The British Academy Film Awards are presented in an annual award show hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts to honour the best British and international contributions to film. The next ones will be presented on April 6, 2017, 10:00 AM PDT. These two men have had help from J.K. Rowling, the writer of the original 'Harry Potter' series have managed to put together, yet another hit, selling over 2 million copies in just 2 days!

The book starts where 'The Deathly Hallows' ends on Platform 9 3/4. So yes, if you haven't read the original books, I would suggest that you should read them first. Yes, Scorpius, Draco Malfoy's son is featured and so is Harry Potter's son, Albus is featured too. I would reveal more but I don't want to spoil it for those who just want to find out whether the book would be a good book or not. I myself have fell for such a trap in the past. Haha!

It has been set in many places, the main ones being, Hogwarts and The Ministry Of Magic, however, Godric's Hollow, the place where Harry Potter was born and where Godric Gryffindor, the founder of Harry's house also comes up several times. I found the settings really interesting because they were the same settings as the older books, just with different characters and, you can see the book from Albus's perspective. Harry found everything about magic fun and exciting, maybe because he was a muggle, a human who would know nothing about magic, whatsoever. Albus, however, hated it. I found Godric's Hollow really fun to realate back to. This was the first time that Harry Potter had gone back to Godric's Hollow since his scar had last hurt. Now, he gets to see where he was born, but this time, as an adult.

The son of Draco Malfoy, Scorpius, is the complete opposibte to Draco and Harry and Albus are opposittes. Maybe Scorpius was different because he was bullied when he was younger. As I mentioned earlier, maybe Albus wasn't that interested because he was born into magic. These made me feel completely different about the book. Albus was completely not perfect unlike Harry. You don't have to be the best to have an interesting story or to make a book. This made me feel that maybe I could be the centre of a book.

Overall, I think that the book was brilliant, but even then, it could be even better. The fact that it was in script form, didn't really make a difference to me. I read the previous 'Harry Potter' books. They don't match with this but this is good anyway. I found it interesting to see how father ad son contrasted to the last book. Stilll, they both get up to no good! I feel that there could've been more from the older books, except for those points however. It was an amazing book. I find it hard to rate things 5 star! Haha. I would certainly recommend it to others and you!
Thanks!
:)

I read all the HP books then Fantastic Beasts so it was only right to read this one next - but then my Mum lost her copy and I had to borrow it from a friend.

I liked this book as it was nice to see what happened next but it wasn't as good as the other books.  I don't know if that was because it was a play or just because it was different and it wasn't what I'd loved in the others.

The strangest thing was realising that Harry was actually a year older than my mum because when I read the HP books he only felt a little older than me.
I want to go and see the play now if I can.

The script formatting really does take a few pages to get used to. That being said, once you've gone through a few pages and taken in some of Thorne's hypnotically poetic stage directions, you really do feel like you're zipping through pages of Rowling's story-led prose. While it might not satisfy all fans (the time travel element in particular is a huge departure from the mythology of the original Harry Potter books), the climax of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is as touching, brutal and crushing, yet all the while thoroughly moving and ultimately tender as J.K. Rowling's original Harry Potter novels.

Different to our usual bedtime read, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child brought out our inner actors as we shared out the various roles in the script. The story was engaging, we loved revisiting our old favourite characters from the Harry Potter series and being introduced to the new ones who soon became firm favourites too.
Our favourite parts of the book were when it would link to the previous stories. Rory would often say "remember this" and "remember that" when a part triggered a memory.
Although this book is technically a script there was enough description to set the scene well. We were often left thinking how magical it would be on stage and how the spookier parts of the story would play out in the theatre. Highly recommended especially for those who loved the originals

Admittedly I am an older fan!! I found the story mainly followed the earlier novels.
I found Albus a little dry until, he was paired with the best part of this script....Scorpius, who was engaging and funny. Their friendship is the main theme of this book really, and I wish they had drawn it away from Harry's story a little more. Draco is still really annoying and Harry quite short sighted.
I feel this was a trip down memory lane. But the interesting parts were about the young boys relationship and child and parent relationships and how these change as the young people get older and see their parents increasingly as human beings.
It also explored a little about choices on the time travelling, how small decisions can change things in a future massively.
I think this is better placed with younger teenagers, or maybe I have gotten more grumpy with age!! :)

I was really looking forward to reading this, I was bitterly disappointed.  I found the whole relationship breakdown between Harry and his son unbelievable and it felt very contrived.  I won't spoil it for you - but I really wouldn't recommend it.

This dull book drags out Harry potters story which isn't necessarily very good, as we have finished his story  it's so different to the Harry Potter books which are engaging and fun.   But this book is just an extension which isn't needed as Harry potters son trys to change what his father did and ends up messing things up.
