Rafe Khatchadorian is getting the Hollywood treatment in a film version of Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life starring Griffin Gluck, Lauren Graham, Rob Riggle and Thomas Barbusca.

It's a dog-eat-dog world, and Rafe Khatchadorian is just trying to live in it. Life in middle school is finally starting to seem bearable - until Rafe spots his grandmother standing in the free-meal line at the local soup kitchen.

To help earn some money for the family, Rafe concocts a brilliant plan - a dog-walking business that soon turns into a huge money-making neighbourhood empire. He'll even have extra cash to buy his own WormHole Deluxe Multi-Platform GameBox!

That is, until two terrible twins launch the Great Dog War by sabotaging Rafe's flyers and stealing his customers. Plus, his bratty kid sister Georgia has skipped a grade - so now she's in all of Rafe's classes. Throw a kid a bone!

This book is funny and is about a boy called Rafe who walks dogs because he wants to earn money to buy the latest gadget which costs a lot of money. There are some comic strips with funny illustrations. I would recommend this book to boys and girls 8+.

My son struggled to get into this book at first but once he got into it he loved it. In the end he found it really funny and was glad he persevered with it.

We have since gone out and bought more in the series which he has thoroughly enjoyed as well.

My son has enjoyed this amusing book. We have not found any problems from having not read the first books in this series. Illustrations are excellent and very funny. My son has particularly liked the comic book sections.
The only downside to this book is that it is very Americanized. There is quite a bit of American slang, the school system is different to that in the UK and the general way of doing things is just not the same. All of this needed explaining to my son. It was not really a problem, quite good to understand that different places have alternative ways of doing things. However, it did get in the way of the story at times.
Overall, a very readable and humorous book, which we would both recommend.
