Life is an adventure. Anything in the world is possible - by will and by luck, with a moist carrot, a wet nose and a slice of mad courage !
Shylo has always been the runt of the litter, the weakest and quietest of all of his family, his siblings spend their days making fun of him for not being like the rest of them. But when Shylo stumbles across a band of ratzis and overhears their evil plan to take a photo of the Queen in her nightie, it's up to this unlikely hero to travel to London and inform the Royal Rabbits of London about the diabolical plot! The Royal Rabbits of London have a proud history of protecting the royal family and now the secret society need to leap into action to stop the ratzis... But can a rabbit as feeble and shy as Shylo convince them that Queen is in danger?
The Hobbit meets Fantastic Mr Fox meets Watership Down in this charming novel from bestselling authors Santa and Sebag Montefiore, which proves even the smallest rabbit can be the biggest hero.

We loved following Shylo on his journey through this book - both his journey from his burrow and the surrounding countryside to Buckingham Palace as well as the journey from shy and timid little bunny, to bold and brave rabbit, able to take on the Ratzis as well as the Queen's corgis.
The book begins relatively slowly as you get to know Shylo, his family and the mysterious Horatio, but quickly picks up the pace and will soon have you gripped.

This is the most beautiful book  - and the most enjoyable tale for all of the family - I enjoyed reading it as much as the children enjoyed hearing it - It is reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland with its magical and quirky characters and story line - my boys fell in love with Shylo the shy rabbit and his quest to protect the queen from the naughty Ratzis who want to take a picture of her in her nightie!  Every moment of the book was filled with fun and excitement and descriptive storytelling, this book will definately become a real treasure to cherish in years to come. Excellent!

I loved this little hard back book. Best book I have read in ages. Fantastic story about Shylo rabbit who was small and scared. He sets out to London to inform the Royal Rabbit of London about a plot to take pictures of the Queen. It is about how he conquers his fears to save the day. Brilliant characters and story line. Fantastic pictures. Couldn't put it down. Cant wait for the next book to come out next year. 10 out of 10.

Loved this book it's full of adventure the sort of oil you could imagine as a film. The main character shylo tawny tail is an adorable bunny donning his eye patch he is much braver than he thinks,as he journeys to find the Royal rabbit guard and foil a plot to bring shame on the queen of England. Definitely a must read, that we just didn't want to put down

What a fantastic book! We absolutely LOVED this book and could not wait to read it everyday at story time. We didn't get to read much more than a chapter or two every day but when we did get to read it we couldn't put it down! It had us gripped from the moment we picked it up. It was a thoroughly enjoyable story which led a small and weak rabbit on a bold and dangerous adventure. Shylo Tawny-Tail was a very gentle and shy rabbit to begin with who was very shocked that he was expected to undertake such a huge and important adventure.
We learnt a lot from Shylo:
"He taught me that even little people can be brave, it doesn't just have to be big people."
"He showed us that adventures can be exciting even if they're scary."
"He told us that we should never give up."
"Being small doesn't matter if you are brave."
We all liked different characters throughout the story and the children thoroughly enjoyed the different accents that I had to put on to become those characters.
They looked forward to the pages where there were pictures because they enjoy picture books a great deal but if they could change anything about the pictures it would be to add colour to make them more interesting and exciting. The pictures themselves were very detailed but since it was a small book and we read it as a class some of them struggled to see the exact detail - I imagine it would be better if they were reading to themselves and didn't have to catch a glimpse as it passed around the group.
The chapters were nice and short and we generally read to the end of a chapter before reluctantly closing the book.
We were very satisfied with the story and couldn't wait to finish the book in order to find out what happened to Shylo. They children had great faith in him but also couldn't believe that he'd be able to complete the task because he was so scrawny and small. They were thrilled when they discovered he was able to save the day and become a Royal Rabbit for real.
Some children didn't like that the Ratzis got eaten because even though they were naughty and mean they still didn't deserve that. I thought that was quite sweet because they were thoughtful enough to want to forgive their wrong-doings and give them a second chance - just like we do at school. Great PSHE link there.
We spent lots of time in awe and laughing throughout this book - due to the Ratzis farting and the sheer adventure of it all.
Their views of the different characters are as follows;
"I liked the Queen because she had a funny voice."
"Shylo was my favourite because he was the bravest rabbit ever."
"Shylo was the best because he was strong even though he was small."
"Horatio because he was the only one who believed in Shylo, Not even Shylo believed in himself."
Overall what a beautiful book - we cannot wait to read the sequel. What a fabulous book to have won! Thank you!

Beautifully written story thatll swoop any young reader off their feet and into a magical world of rabbits. There's colourful characters and the story is well written and illustrations on the pages are a brilliant addition especially when reading to a 5 year old rather than having a bit older reader who can independently go through the book. We enjoyed this book wholeheartedly.

This really is a lovely read. I read this to my little girl and we have both really enjoyed it.
We read this not long after a visit to Buckingham Palace so it really came to life for my daughter, who delighted in the thought that the Royal Rabbits had been there, secretly watching her during her visit.
The story is a lovely adventure and Shylo  is a beautiful character. The illustrations throughout are beautiful and the whole feel and appearance of the book are very regal. We can't wait to read the next in the series next year.

After reading the excellent reviews for this book, I decided to give it a go. We all loved it. I have been reading it every night to my husband and son. It took a while to get into it, but the pace quickened as Shylo got going on his adventures and the introduction to the ratzi. The illustrations are fabulous. My son was particularly struck by the 'weird' corgi dogs. He said that 'The book was very funny. I liked it. My favourite character has to be Shylo, because he was brave and had an eye patch. I thought the ratzi were funny especially at the end.'  It does remind me a little bit of Watership Down. There is a slightly gory scene at the end. However, my son was completely unperturbed by it. Looking forward to the film when it comes out.

Just looking at the cover of this book is enough to make you smile - it's just beautiful.  The tale inside, of Shylo, a country rabbit, who overcomes his fears to foil a plot by the Ratzis is just fabulous.  Taking us to the heart of London and the Royal Rabbits who live underneath Buckingham Palace the book is full of interesting characters and a tale of derring do that has the odd touch of "Mission Impossible" about it.  The illustrations throughout are just utterly charming but there's also a lot of social commentary within the tale.  Londoners who are all glued to their phones, kids who won't ever get off their computer games and perils of the internet are all mentioned.  Perhaps this is as much a cautionary tale that we should all get out there and have adventures rather than rely on electronic gadgetry!!

For some reason this book didn't appeal to me as much as I hopped (hoped)!! I read several chapters but in the end decided not to finish it. I have given it to my brother to try. It is a shame as rabbits are my favourite.
