'A heart-warming story with a great girl-power message' - Jacqueline Wilson

Charlie Bass is a horse-mad ten-year-old who dreams of owning her own pony. So when she accidentally manages to buy a racehorse, Charlie is thrilled.

The horse she buys, Noble Warrior, looks the part: strong, fit and healthy. There's just one problem - he won't gallop. In fact, he won't even leave his stable without his best friend, a naughty palomino pony called Percy.

Charlie is convinced that Noble Warrior has what it takes to be a champion. But can she prove it? Derby Day is fast approaching and only a win can save the family farm from being repossessed.

The stakes couldn't be higher for the Basses. Can Charlie turn her chaotic family into a top training team? Can Noble Warrior overcome his nerves? Will Percy the pony ever stop farting?

Find out in this classic, funny animal story, perfect for fans of Dick King-Smith and Gerald Durrell.

I used to love reading pony books as a child - great to find this author and relive the fun. Charlie is a great character who lives with her family in the countryside. They all really enjoy their life but they may loose it as they need money to save the farm. Accidentally, Charlie bought 2 horses who were supposed to save it. This book is fantastic for anyone who likes ponies and horses. You can learn all facts about them. An interesting look at what it's like to be a girl in a boy-dominated world. The book was both interesting and the characters were very captivating.

We read this book in two days.  It had a great storyline and really appealed to the child.  The nice thing about the book was that there were some activities in the back that they were able to do once they had read the book.  This added a great interactive feature.

I liked this book because the main character Charlotte (Charlie for short) is horse/ pony crazy!!!
The main characters are Charlie, Joe, Noble warrior (Noddy) and Percy (the pony who can't help attracting attention to himself) In this book Charlie is a horse mad girl who has two brothers a mum a dad and a farm that is in danger. Charlie tries her best to save the farm but things all go wrong. Then luck strikes and Charlie Percy Noble warrior and Joe save the day!!!  This is a great story and has a lovely happy ending. I loved the activities in the back and would definitely recommend this book to horse mad ten year olds like Charlie!!!

About Clare Balding

When she was young, Clare Balding thought she was a dog. Disappointed to discover she was only human, she did her best to spend every waking hour with dogs and ponies.
