This is a lovely Board book for toddlers and pre-schoolers who are learning their colours.  My 4 year old daughter loved reading along with me and identifying the colours and it was useful that there were all the colours mentioned in the book at the back for her to recognise separately.  The use of nature and a simple, gentle story also helps to reinforce the learning of the colours and keeps it interesting.  It is on regular rotation in our household!

My little boy received this book as a gift for Christmas and it's such a lovely book. It's an enjoyable story and the illustrations are lovely. It is a great book for teaching colours without simply stating the colours.

Fantastic book which has quickly become our daughter's favourite book - has to be read every night before bed. Have been struck both by her engagement with the book and by the way in which she seems to be becoming ever more curious about the world since reading it: 'wow' has become a common refrain when she sees something new/different/amazing. The 'curious' owl is a lovely model for our children

This is a beautiful book - it is a winning combination of the type of book that children love and also that the adults love too.  It's a simple concept of introducing colours through a story about an owl. The pictures are endearing and the use of colour is more sophisticated that a classic blocks of primary colours - it's actually a lovely rhyming story too. Coincidentally, just after we read the book we found out that our local theatre is doing a production of it which having read the book we are very excited about.

My little one received this book as a gift when he was one, and it's absolutely beautiful. He loved seeing and learning about the different colors, and he loved the little owl who stayed up to see the world. Even now (he's 3), he still picks this book so I can read it to him. It is well-loved.

Little Owl is curious about the daytime and so, instead of sleeping through it as normal, she decides to wake up just before dawn. Awestruck, she admires the world around her: the sky, the sunshine, the trees and the flowers.

This is a book of colours. We see the contrast between the indigo darkness of Owl's nighttime world and the bright, rainbow colours of the daytime.

Tim Hopwood's illustrations are beautiful. I especially like the patterns and textures that he uses for the leaves, and the way he's painted the sky. Owl's wide-eyed amazement is particularly endearing too.
This book is a lovely way to introduce your child to colours and it's a joyful celebration of the natural world.

A wonderful book with beautiful illustrations. This helps children learn their colours. This was mine and my son's favourite book to snuggle up on the sofa to read. We read it so often he could soon "read along" I was delighted when his little sister was equally mesmerised by this book. A must buy in my opinion.

We have another Tim Hopgood book which has helped my daughter with counting and numbers so this was the ideal book to help her with her colours. She loves this book and insists on me reading it every night. She now tells me the colours on each page and recites the words. lovely little book with great illustrations. only downside is that my daughter thinks the butterflies are pink rather than red and I can't disagree. Great for pre school aged children.

We both really enjoyed this book. The bright colours keep my daughter engaged and is be far her favourite book now. Her favourite page is the orange flower page. Sometimes we just open it to that page to make her smile. It's fun to find the owl on every page, but I think she will enjoy that more when she is older.

My son received this brilliant book through bookstart as a gift and it is a firm favourite. I read it to him when he was 2 or 3 and he opted for it many times for bedtime. He can now read himself and he still enjoys it.

Owl wants to know what daytime is like so she stays up past dawn and is in awe of the beautiful colours nature has to offer. The repetition of 'wow! Said the owl' as well as the rhyming structure helps to engage young children really well so they can join in with the reading even when they aren't quite reading themselves.

The 'wow' can be replaced with the equivalent word in another language too which can be especially beneficial to bilingual children. So many follow on activities can be explored with this book.

Tim Hopwood has used a simple concept to explore the beauty of nature and colours coupled with great illustrations that children with love.

My son has been enjoying this book since he was a year old, at that stage he could take a while to warm to a book, but this one he loved straight away. A little owl decides to stay awake all day so she can experience all the different colours in the daytime, but will she decide that daytime is better than night time? A lovely way to learn colours, and a little bit about owls. We love Tim Hopgood's books, his illustrations are beautiful explosions of colour.

WOW! Said the Owl 9781509834082

We both love reading this book to Poppy, the repetitive use of "Wow, said the owl" helps her to learn and the colours are nicely linked to the natural environment an owl might live in so it's a much more interesting and engaging way to learn about colours. The illustrations are lovely and there is a story which runs through the book which again makes it more interesting than those books which just have examples of colours on each page.

This gorgeous picture book is a favourite of my toddlers. It's the story of a owl who stops up during the day and discovers the world is full of colours. It's a brilliant way to introduce colours to toddlers as they are woven into the story rather than simply there to be learnt by wrote and association like a lot of classic "colour" books.

The illustrations are beautiful and ideal to talk about with your child.

I can't recommend this highly enough; a definite must-read.

This is a beautiful story of discovery and awe, and beautifully reflects the wonder that children find in the world around them. The illustrations are simple, yet gorgeous, and it gently teaches children about colour. I love reading this story to my children, and would thoroughly recommend it - it's a very special little book!

'wow' said my daughter ... we were lucky enough to win this book and since it arrived today my 2 year old has asked for it to be read 8 times!!
The book is shiney, bright, robust hard pages - there is repetition in the text and pictures to stay familiar but enough difference to keep a toddler interested.
The focus on different colours is great to practise together - the 'colour words' are in bold type (which will be good for an older one to recognise letters and sounds) and also the clear pictures are great to ask to be pointed out or to be named.
A lovely book that I have enjoyed reading and my little one has sat still for!
