Do you believe in magic?

Can you imagine a war between wizards, a rebellious ant called 4179003, or a time-travelling television?

Can you imagine that poor old Mr Swimble could see a mysterious vacuum cleaner in the morning, and make cheese sandwiches and yellow elephants magically appear by the afternoon?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Sir Terry Pratchett, and fourteen fantastically funny tales from the master storyteller. Bursting from these pages are food fights, pirates, bouncing rabbits and magical pigeons.

And a witch riding a vacuum cleaner, of course.

`One of the most consistently funny writers around'

This is a really good collection of short stories. My favourite was the gnome of even more as it was really cool and funny.
The stories are all different but some follow the same theme. I've never read books by this author but I want to read more xx

Great book which me and Bella enjoyed, nice that it is broken up into short stories so not too overwhelming for the child. A fabulous author which we will be looking for more books off.

Already fans of Terry Pratchett, the kids were keen to read this book. Read by Chloe, 14 & Cameron, 9, they both really enjoyed the story and found it easy to read, it gave them a few giggles too.

My boys loved this collection of stories and it was great for bedtime for us as one a night was enough.  Sam loved the story about the gnomes and it had little illustrations throughout which added to the hilarity of the gnomes adventures. Josh liked the story about the statues in the park and again the clear type and the illustrations were great.
As a mum reading to the boys, I liked the imaginative storylines and that the vocabulary in the book stretched them, quite often the boys would ask 'what does that mean?'

My son liked listening to these funny, and rather quirky, stories. He was particularly fond of the rather expressive drawings of some of the characters. ('I liked the silly sheep, especially when they are in prison.') We found some of the stories more hilarious than others. (He loved The Witch's Vacuum Cleaner. 'I liked it when the parrot (Mimms) kept shouting out things he wanted to eat. I thought it was funny when he ended up with lots of brussels sprouts instead of something nice like cake.') I wasn't too sure about Ant called 4179003 as nothing really happened. Overall,  a great book which shows off Pratchett's fabulous imagination.

What a glorious book. My dad reads the Disc world books so was very keen for me to read this. Reminded me of Roald Dahl - loved it!

I love the way terry pratchet is so imaginative in the way he creates new worlds, like gnome world! I loved most of his stories but I found some of them not quite as interesting. Also, I like the way he uses the same places for different stories, like the Wild West or Blackbury.

Surreal and funny, this is a great collection of short stories from Terry Pratchett. This has been a great book for bedtime as we read one or two stories each night. My son enjoyed being able to hear a complete story each night. There are connections between the stories, with many being centred around the same town and the same characters appearing in several.  The pictures complement the text, with both being equally silly and irreverent.
Another positive is that we have also got out other Terry Pratchett books to read to our children - and this slept ion of short stories is a great introduction to a fantastic author. There is anothe book of short stories which we will definitely be getting.
