A tiny chimp invokes the universal language, uniting his friends in a group hug to end all group hugs. Just try to resist Jez Alborough's latest charmer!

Ever feel like you need a hug? A really big hug from someone who loves you? That's how Bobo, the little chimp in this book, feels. Walking through the jungle he passes lots of creatures enjoying a cuddle together: elephants, chameleons, lions, giraffes, hippos - even the snakes have got someone special to squeeze. But poor Bobo is alone. Will he ever find the hug he needs? Using only the single word "hug" throughout the book, this simple, endearing story is told through Jez Alborough's gorgeous, detailed artwork.

This is great when you are starting reading with your toddler. They can learn to identify the word 'hug' as it is repeated so often and will pick up that the word says something and has meaning. The other books in the same series are similar and all help with establishing reading.

My daughter loves this book she loves looking at the illustrations and as the pictures pretty much tell the story it's great for young children as they can follow and understand the story themselves.  Our favourite bit is when he finds his Mum at the end and everybody hugs.

This is the sweet story of a chimp who is looking for someone to hug, only every other animal in the jungle seems to already have someone to hug. That is until he and his Mum manage to find each other: they hug and all the jungle animals hug.

This book is beautifully illustrated; the magic of this book is being able to follow the story together through the pictures. It provides a great opportunity to talk about what's happening in each picture; it's fantastic for language development all round as well as other skills, such as recognising feelings and developing empathy. The text is extremely simple; just single words in speech bubbles e.g. "Mum" or "Bobo". This doesn't detract from the story at all as you're free to share it with your child and say whatever you want, in whatever manner. It's a tool for guided story-time in many respects!

The book is fairly small, which is ideal for my children to hold and "read" independently. The fact it's a board book makes it very durable and able to stand up to the abuse! My toddlers spend ages examining the pictures in detail themselves and shouting out what they see.

This is a fantastic tale of love, affection and connection; I highly recommend it!

This is a beautiful, simple book for young children to enjoy!  It has very few words, but the illustrations are so wonderfully done you can follow the little monkey's story and emotions without the need for much text!

This is a book to read to your toddler when you're cuddled up close. It's all about love and hugs. The little chimp spends the story
desperately wanting a hug. He encounters lots of animals (lovingly drawn) but only finds what he really needs at the end. Simple and sweet.

This is a lovely book for very young children.  It has only one word (repeated) in the whole book which gives lots of space to look at the pictures and talk about them with your child.  It's a very sweet simple story of a little monkey seeing all the other animals in the jungle hugging their parents.  A lovely ending and a good one to read when you are all snuggled up with your little one.
