The smallest fish can tell the tallest tales ...
"Sorry I'm late, Miss. I set off really early but on the way to school
I was captured by a squid. I wriggled and I struggled till
a turtle came and rescued me."
"Oh, no, he didn't." "OH, YES, HE DID."

Tiddler is a little fish with a BIG imagination! What ever will he
come up with next?

Tiddler is a little fish who is always late for school, but has a big imagination which lets him come up with stories for why he's never on time! My little boy (2) loves this story, and he takes over parts of the story, such as answering the register , shouting 'tiddlers late' and 'oh no he didn't'.  A wonderful book which we all love!

We are huge fans of Julia Donaldson's books and this one is no exception. Both Leo and Georgie love reading it at bedtime and love repeating various lines including "Oh yes he did" and "Tiddler's late".
They love recognising all of the different sea animals in the pictures especially the 'Gruffalo fish'!
The rhyme and rhythm make it a fun book to read and there are lots of opportunities to use different voices for the characters. I often read it with my oldest so we can take on roles.

Great book.... Tiddler is always late for school and comes up with a different story to explain his lateness..... until one day he really does have an adventure that makes him very late for school. Classic boy that cries wolf..... but actually the strength of his stories means they've spread from creature to creature through the ocean.... helping Tiddler "follow his story" home as he asks each creature who they heard his story from......
The Tiddler fish makes guest appearances across Donaldson/Scheffler's other books.... which adds to my daughter's enjoyment when we're reading other books. "Look there's Tiddler in another story !!. We've just seen Scamp Theatre's "Tiddler" show - which has added another dimension to the book again - cant get the "song version" of the story out of my mind when I'm reading it.

This has to be in our top 3 of Julias books, and one I think I could recite by heart. The tale of tiddler will be one I can see my son eventually reading to his kids too.

This is my son's favourite book. It is about a fish who loves making up elaborate stories about why he is late for school. My son loves the repetition in the book and shouting out "Tiddler's late" and "oh yes he did" in the appropriate places.

Tiddler, tiddler, tiddler is late! What a lovely story from Julia Donaldson about a little fish called Tiddler who is always making up tall stories about why he is late, he is so busy daydreaming that he ends up with a story to tell and trying to find his way home.  Great rhyming as expected and wonderful illustrations, this is a big hit in our house!

Another wonderful addition to the Donaldson and Scheffler series of books. My three year old twins really love the illustrations in this one as they are fascinated with life below sea level. The story and characters are charming and very exciting. How will poor tiddler get home? A great fun book.

Tiddler is a little fish with a big imagination...who is always late. This is another fantastic book by the amazing team that is writer Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler. We absolutely love their books. It has the usual and lovely sing song rhyming text and wonderful illustrations. Tiddler is never on time for school but he always has an excuse and an amazing tale to tell. One day when he is really late he must have a good reason and an amazing story right? We loved this book. It was really funny and had a great story.

A great night time reading, just long enough for my 5 year old and at her age she enjoys reading it herself. A good little story of a fish (Tiddler) who tells tall tales ending up in a little trouble and lost but following the legend of his tall stories helps find his way home. Would recommend this book.

We love the story of Tiddler, a fish who has a wild imagination and makes up different stories for why he is late for school every day, until one day he gets caught in a fish net...

A beautifully illustrated book with a great story for children to really get engaged with. Definitely worth a read (or ten!). I would also recommend "The Tiddler and other Tales" theatre show. We have been twice and loved it both times!

I usually love Julia Donaldson books but this one didn't catch my interest as much as many of her others. It's quite a sweet little story of a fish who is prone to telling tall tales. It's ok to read the first couple of times but it's not one I enjoy reading over and over again unlike The Gruffalo or Stickman or Room on a Broom. Slightly disappointing compared to her usual high standards.
