From the creators of the bestselling Oi Frog! Frog comes an hilarious tale about one duck's quest for a missing vowel! Quentin was a duck with a very quick quack.
'QUCK!' said Quentin. 'What's wrong with me?' Quentin's quack has lost its A. Do any of the other animals have one to spare? Not likely! APES don't want to be PES. SNAKES don't want to be SNKES. PANDAS don't want to be PNDAS or even PANDS. Will Quentin be stuck with a very quick QUCK?! Brilliant for reading out loud and teaching children about vowels and animals. Praise for Oi, Frog! also by Kes Gray and Jim Field: 'An absolute treat.' - Daily Mail
Kes Gray is a bestselling, multi award-winning author of more than 70 books for children. He eats Ideaflakes for breakfast, spreads silliness on his toast and lives in a place called Different. Jim Field is a lead-driven, pencil-pushing, 25-frames-per-second Led Zeppelin fan. He is also a hugely talented illustrator and animation director. His first picture book Cats Ahoy! won the Roald Dahl Funny Prize. Oi Frog! , Oi Dog! and Oi Cat! are a top ten bestselling series. Oi Dog! was shortlisted for the Sainsbury's Children's Book Award and the British Book Awards in 2016, amongst others. It also won the Teach Primary New Children's Fiction Award, MadeForMums Award, Bishop's Stortford Picture Book Award and Portsmouth Picture Book Award. Oi Cat! was the Independent Booksellers Children's Book of the Season and Oi Goat! is a World Book Day book in 2018.

We're very new to the Oi range, and got this out from the library as my youngest has just learnt to quack and my eldest finds that hilarious so now ducks are wildly amusing!
This book just adds to that amusement - it's brilliantly written, superb story for both my boys - eldest loves the range of animals and youngest loves the funny quacks I have to make as we read it!
I can't recommend this book enough and will be purchasing our own version as a Christmas present!! I will warn you though, it can be quite a mouthful to get the right sounds! Haha

What a fun book!  I had a great time trying to get my tongue around some of the words, and my daughter really enjoyed the story of the poor duck who had lost his A!

Quick Quack Quentin is a fabulous picture book: funny and brilliantly illustrated. Jim Field's bold pictures set against colourful backgrounds will really appeal to young readers. Quentin the duck is poorly and has lost the a from his quack. He sets about trying to find a replacement and the story follows him as he asks various animals at the farm and then at the zoo if he can have a vowel from their names. Dog lends him his o, but Quentin doesn't sound quite right saying "quock". It's no better when he borrows the u from bull either. The humour comes from playing around with sounds and words and this makes it a perfect book for children who are learning to read because it draws on their phonic knowledge. It's a great read aloud book with plenty of scope for improvisation.

We borrowed this book from the library as my daughter had been reading oi frog at nursery.
It took me a few attempts to get into the swing of the story, but once I’d got the hang of it I realised how brilliant it was! The illustrations are fantastic, my daughter spent ages exploring the pictures! She especially loved it when Quentin takes all the A’s from the aardvark! Such a clever book!

My four year old twins have recently started learning phonics at school and are generally interested in the alphabet and what letters names begin with etc. This book is absolutely perfect for them to help encourage their interest and learning. They are loving learning about how words change when you take letters out and add others in. As well as being educational, this is an extremely funny book with great illustrations. Highly recommended for this age group.

One of the best books I've read with my kids! Quentin the duck has lost the "a" in his quack and he approaches lots of other animals to see if they'll give him one of their "a"s. My 3 year old is learning his sounds and letters and this book really helps with recognising sounds and letters as the book shows what happens to words if letters are missing or replaced - in a really funny way. Such a clever book!

We really loved reading about Quentin with a quick quack. He doesn't really sound like a duck without his A and finding someone with a spare is proving to be tricky. Leo uses phonics at school so delighted in saying all of the different letter sounds and hearing how they changed Quentin's 'quck'. The repetitive style is similar to the Oi! series of books, which we have also read and enjoyed.

At first glance, it's just another colourful picture book for my Key Stage 1 library... those who are just learning vowel sounds as well as those who can read more confidently.  On reading the story myself, I realise it's appeal to older children too, who will enjoy the humour and the witty illustrations.  Definitely one I'll be recommending!

This is a very clever book about poor Quentin who loses the 'a' from his quAck. He sets off around the farm and the zoo to see if someone can give him an 'a'. Sadly dog can only give him an 'o' - quock, and bull 'u' - quuck. It doesn't sound right!

This was a tongue twister for me to read and I think we will come back to this book next year when my son starts to learn to read at school as I think it will make more sense to him then.

We got this book out of the library as we are big fans of the author's other books Oi Frog and Oi Dog. However this one is really aimed at older children - my daughter is 2.5 - as it's about missing letters in words. Would be good for school-aged children. The illustrations are as great as in the other books - we especially liked the panda.  We will come back to this one when she is older.
