Zog is the keenest dragon in school. He's also the most accident-prone.
Luckily, a mysterious little girl always comes
by and patches up his bumps and bruises. But will she be able to
help him with his toughest test: capturing a princess?

A wonderfully funny new story from the creators of The Gruffalo
and Stick Man.

Fans of The Gruffalos will love this story which rhymes. Zog is a dragon who goes to dragon school, and isn't like the other dragons. He doesn't want to be scary! A bit longer than the Gruffalo, but will be loved just as much!

My son loved this book, he especially liked the dragons. I think the princess wanting to be a doctor and help all the dragons was a lovely touch. And a lovely ending!

We love Julia Donaldson!
We particularly like Zog because we are a little bit accident-prone in our household and so we can relate to it!
We think Zog chose the best option for him in the end as he wouldn't have made a fierce dragon!
We loved hunting out the image of The Gruffalo and recognising the characters from other Julia Donaldson books

Amazed to be the first reviewer of Zog !! It's one of my favourites.
Follow Zog the dragon through his years at Dragon School and learns the "art" of being a dragon .... roaring, breathing fire, flying, catching princesses... it's all there. A lovely book to "act" along to (roar loudly, no louder....!!) and a nice way to introduce the concept of school to a 3/4 yr old. Zog is not always the best student, but with dedication and the help of his friend (the princess Pearl) he achieves each new skill... and finds a useful profession to help others (flying doctor) by graduation.

Leo found this story very entertaining from beginning to end. He loved the familiar, brightly-colored illustrations and spent a lot of time looking at the dragons, background characters and poor Zog's mishaps as he learnt about being a dragon. Leo enjoyed joining in with the rhymes and repetition and he seemed quick to pick up on the unconventional narrative as the story went on. It started with dragons typically learning to fly, roar, breathe fire and capture princesses. However Zog isn't fierce and the princess doesn't need the knight to rescue her.

A very funny, lively and entertaining book. My three year old twin girls really love this adore as it has dragons, and who doesn't love dragons. Donaldson's text and Schefflers illustrations are perfect together as always. The story is lovely and the friendship between the Princess and the dragon is sweet. The happy ending is well deserved, all in all a fun book about the trails and tribulations of school and how perseverance and hard work pay off in the end.

We love Zog - such fab illustrations and charming rhyming prose - everything you would expect from the team that is Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.  Lucas loves that the Dragons go through Year 1,2 etc at school just like he does.  A nice strong feminist princess is great for the adults too - no-one is going to put Princess Pearl in a ballroom.  She's volunteered herself to be captured by Zog and it's the perfect way for her, Sir Gadabout and Zog to become the flying doctor service she dreams of.  We're definitely going to be buying the sequel

Julia Donaldson doesn't disappoint again. This has to be our second favourite of hers, second to The Gruffalo of course. We love the rhyming, the illustrations but most importantly the story line. Zog, the friendly dragon, shows that it is okay that he is different to the others and that is such an important lesson for today's generation.

Another classic from Julia and Axel. Zog is a friendly dragon who isn't like the others. He isn't very good at what the other dragons are, but this has a happy ending and is a good lesson about embracing who we are.

“Zog” is the story of a dragon as he attends dragon school; Zog tries hard to master the classic lesson (such as roaring or flying) in an attempt to win the golden star but always seems to have a mishap! Luckily, there’s a kind little girl [Pearl] who always stumbles upon him to patch up his sore patches. In Year 4 she even offers to be the princess he captures! In Year 5 a Knight [Sir Gadabout] appears to save her but Pearl stops the fight and the she, Zog and Gadabout decide to team up as crew of flying doctors - the three of them finally finding their true calling. And Zog manages to finally win that golden star!
It’s a sweet story with a prevailing theme of bucking convention to do what you’re truly good. Pearl is a great little role model for young girls providing an alternative to the traditional princess; both me and the kids love this one!
The illustrations are done by Axel Sheffler so they are instantly familiar and recognisable. As always they’re bright, cheerful and engaging; they compliment the story beautifully. We spend a lot of time talking around the pictures and seeing what else we can find.
The story is told in rhyming prose so it’s a joy to read aloud. The language is simple enough for young children to follow the story.
A definite must for any fans of dragons or Julia Donaldson!

We love reading Zog together. He's a dragon who is so accident prone but has a huge heart. My daughter knows the words to the story off by heart so enjoys joining in with the repetition and rhyme. The illustrations are gorgeous and the book challenges traditional stereotypes (which is always a big positive in our house!).

Of all of Julia Donaldson's books, this has to be our favourite! We love Zog and his dragon training.  The story has lots of repetition which is really fun to join in with and we adore the feisty princess! The twist at the end of the story makes it a really positive story for both girls and boys too. If you like dragons, princesses or knights, this is a story for you!

This is a really fun book with the usual amazing rhyming sentences and colourful illustrations you come to expect from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. Zog is a young dragon in dragon school and he is very keen but really struggles. Luckily a kind girl is on hand to help look after him and patch him up. Zog's biggest test is to capture a princess. Will he be able to do it and can his new kind friend help him out. A lovely story which slightly older readers will love to read to themselves. We really enjoyed it.
