The 10th anniversary and modern classic edition of the bestselling and award-winning, You're a Bad Man, Mr Gum

`It's time for action,' said Mr Gum to nobody in particular. `Nasty action.'

Good evening. Mr Gum is a complete horror who hates children, animals, fun and corn on the cob. This book's all about him. And an angry fairy who lives in his bathtub. And Jake the dog, and a little girl called Polly. And there's heroes and sweets and adventures and EVERYTHING.

You're a Bad Man, Mr Gum! is the first book in the internationally best-selling series by Andy Stanton, which has won everything from the Blue Peter Book Award (twice) to the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Red House Children's Book Award. This edition celebrates the 10th anniversary of its first publication.

It is a good book because it's funny and I think it should be for children aged five and over. It is nice to have it read to me but I can also read it myself.

This book is exciting and really funny from the very start. My teacher is reading is another Mr Gumm book and this one is great too. He does such awfully mad and lazy things, especially when it comes to not making his bed!!!!

I have been laughing out loud so much and this is one of my all time favourite books already. If you like Horrid Henry and David Walliams books then I think you will enjoy this and actually not want to put it down.

Owen was really excited to read this book. Every now and then I would hear some chuckles and it was Owen reading this book. He enjoyed it so much, it was finished in just 2 sittings and he asked if there were more Mr Gum books. I actually picked it up myself and read about 10 pages. Brilliiantly descriptive and very funny to read.

I enjoyed this book, and it was on my school reading scheme so I got to add the word count to my yearly total. It didn't take me very long to read and I liked the characters. The story was easy to follow and had some bits that made me laugh. I would read other books in the series now that I have read this one.

I really enjoyed Mr Gum. It was a bit sad when Mr Gum poisoned that poor dog Jake but then when he ate that Dolphin Chocolate it brought him to life once again and  went off with, Jammy Grammy Lammy F'Huppa F'Huppa Berlin Sterio Eo Eo Lebb C'Yepp Nermonica Le Straypek De Grespin De Crespin De Spespin De Vespin De Whoop De Loop De Brunkle Merry Christmas Lenoir but if your her friend you can call her Polly. So that's probably why she had lots of friends was what I had in mind but actually Polly was a very nice girl honestly though HAVEN'T met her parents yet but I pretty much know all there is to know accept why would they call their daughter, Jammy Grammy Lammy F'Huppa F'Huppa Berlin Sterio Eo Eo Lebb C'Yepp Nermonica Le Straypek De Grespin De Crespin De Spespin De Vespin De Whoop De Loop De Brunkle Merry Christmas Lenoir? I liked the funny part when it was saying how good Mr Gum's garden was it said, think of a number between 1 and 10 then multiply your number by 5 add on 350 take away 11 then throw all of your numbers away and think of a great garden. That part really made me laugh I also found the Garden Fairy very funny when Mr Gum had a messy garden the Garden Fairy would whack Mr Gum with her pan! I give this story a 5 star rating thank you for reading my review

I liked this because its a good story. There is a man called Mr Gum and he is a bad man. There is a dog called jake and he likes going in Mr Gums garden, but Mr Gum does not like it. So he sets a trap! Friday was a funny character because he kept saying "its unwise". This made me laugh. At the end of the story its Polly who saves the day! I would recommend this story and am looking forward to reading more Mr Gum books.

Mr Gum is a very bad man, he hates almost everything. He lives in a dump of a house and wears shabby clothes, although he keeps his garden clean.  It's because if he doesn't, a small fairy hits him with a frying pan! There's a dog called Jake who messes peoples gardens.  They think it is luck but Mr Gum just thinks of bumps and bruises!
I really enjoyed reading this book from start to finish. I also recommend this book.

We shared the reading of this book. It was consequently quite a quick read. My son thought it was hilarious. It was a definite laugh out loud book for him. We both liked Jake the dog, who was quite an endearing animal.

My son: My favourite part was when Jonathan Ripples sat on Martin Launderette. I thought it was funny that Friday kept saying 'The truth is a lemon meringue.'

I really enjoy reading books like Barry Loser and Roald Dahl so was really looking forward to this book as it looked similar from the cover.
The book was very funny and I liked the character of Mr Gum, even though he was a bit grumpy and not very nice to people.  My favourite character was Jake the dog, he was great!
Although I really enjoyed the story it didn't take me very long to read at all and I would have liked more.
I did enjoy this book and would read other Mr Gum books.

I read this to my son, as he wanted to read a grown up book and loves horrid Henry so wanted something funny. This book delivered!! , we had many a night reading pages together and laughing at the grumpy Mr Gum and all his crazy plans. We loved Jake the dog and Polly who really gave balance to the book and were great characters.
The book was fun and witty!
I know my son will love reading this book on his own and will get even more of the humour.  We will definitely buy more books in the range.

This book is about a man called Mr Gum. He is disgusting. When a dog named Jake comes along, he loves Mr Gum' garden. Then garden is protected by an angry fairy. The story is based around this. This book is easy to read with great illustrations. I found it funny at times. The best character was Friday as he helped a little girl save Jake. I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to children who love adventure stories.
