There's a commotion in the classroom as Goat and the other animals spend the day at playgroup. The musical instruments and the dressing up box are lots of fun, but - oh dear! - Goat gets into a muddle or two. Written by award-winning author of The Gruffalo , Julia Donaldson, and featuring the bright, lively illustrations of Nick Sharratt, Goat Goes to Playgroup is a comforting story for any child starting at, or already attending, a playgroup.

Colourful illustrations and great rhymes - I started reading this to my daughter when she was 1 and it really helped her learn different animals and colours. Recently revisited the book before she started nursery to help her know what to expect, we love goat and his playgroup adventures

A nice simple and colourful book - rhyming pattern which flows nicely.  Shows cheeky goat's adventures at playgroup - we read this ahead of my daughter going to preschool to give her an idea of things she might get up to.  Will also be fun for her to read as she learns her words.

This book for younger children is a hoot and my four year old twins still love it so much. Goat is a little bit naughty so I usually point out what he is doing and what may have been a better thing for him to do. Donaldson usual rhyming style is at it's best here and so easy for children to follow along to. The illustrations compliment the text perfectly and are funny, bright and cheerful. A great book for young children to enjoy.

This is one of my daughters current favourites. She loves the characters and the fact they are all animals. Her favourite part is the end as she liked to point out and ask about who each character/animal it is.

This picture book is a big favourite of my toddler: it tells the story of what Goat gets up to at playgroup.

My son loves that all the characters are animals; he enjoys naming them as we go along and telling me what they are doing. The ending is lovely and it's great fun for little ones to match up the children and parents.

The illustrations are bright and bold; the complement the text superbly and are very eye- catching for little ones.

It's a relatable story for toddlers; they recognise the activities and scenarios so it's intrinsically interesting. It could also be used to prepare children prior to attending nursery.

All in all, it's a playful book that is definitely worth a read.

Julia Donaldson is onto another winner here. This is a lovely book about a goat who goes to playgroup and gets up to mischief. It showcases a lot of relatable events for a toddler and is a good introduction to play school.

The illustrations are bright and bold and fit in nicely with the short rhyming couplets that mark Julia's work. My lg really loves this book and will often have me read it to her several times on the trot. She just thinks it's really funny especially when he has to change his trousers (she's potty training at the mo).

Goat and his animal friends go to playgroup. Loved the bright and colourful illustrations and the rhyming. Goat made my daughter laugh with the things he did, like hanging himself off the coat pegs. I liked the book as it shows what young children do and can need help with, and the things they learn being at playgroup, or even nursery. It is a funny book, and shows real scenarios, so would be great for those to look at who are going to be starting playgroup or nursery. Its simple but a lovely book.

I bought this book for my younger son when he started nursery, and it really helped him with the settling in process. I also love that the goat can be either a boy or a girl, so suitable for any child to relate to.

A lovely simple rhyming story about Goat going to playgroup and his activities there. I bought this for my nearly 3 year old when he was due to start playgroup and we still read it now he is 6! Beautiful illustrations as always with Julia Donaldson's books. A lovely gentle book.

A lovely story about all the adventure goat gets up to at playgroup. Every time we read it my daughter always picks up on the page where goat wets his pants. Saying that goat needs to get changed. We love to pair up the families at the end of the book.

This is such a fun story with some amazingly bold and colourful illustrations. In this book Goat goes to preschool with all the other animals. The animals learn to play music, paint and even play dress up. Unfortunately Goat gets in to a bit of a muddle when he tries to join in. He even spills his juice at snack time. Even though everything doesn't go as planned for Goat he still has great fun at preschool. As expected from a Julia Donaldson book there is some fun, rhyming text which really engages the reader. We loved reading this book as it really made us laugh.

My son loves this book as it's really relatable for him. He talks about how he paints, dresses up, has story time etc at nursery just like all the animals in this book. He also thinks it's funny how Goat gets up to mischief of most pages and tells me how he is well behaved at nursery! His favourite bit is the end where he likes me to tell him what each animal is and helps Goat find his mum. It's a lovely rhyming story with nice pictures throughout.

Another of our growing collection of Julia Donaldson books. This one is illustrated by the brilliant Nick Sharratt ( One Mole Digging a Hole amongst others).  The pictures are adorable and my 2 year old really identifies with the little goat - he kissed him when we got to the page where he'd a had an ' accident' (!) and always shows goat where his mummy is at the end. A lovely collection of animals all enjoying a busy day at playgroup just like my little boy!

Great little story for a child who goes to nursery or Playgroup. You can use the story to explain what will happen there and what fun they will have. Cute illustrations, my son liked the fact that they were all different animals.

Goat Goes To Playgroup is a lovely book to introduce children to the idea of going to preschool. I have read it with children at preschool and it gives us an opportunity to look at what goats doing and compare it to what the children enjoy doing at preschool. Seeing goat get into a bit of trouble makes it much more relatable for the children and fun to read. The illustrations are really lovely showing how and what happens at preschool and what all the students (animals) are up to. This is one of my favourite school books as it's such an easy story for children to understand and the pictures really keep their attention!
