A big favourite in our house! I love that the main protgonist is female (why do we always assume all animals are male in stories!?)  This sequel to the original is loved by us as a family every bit as much as the original.  It follows a similar storyline to the original in the fact that the little gruffalo goes through the woods and meets various characters and escapes becoming dinner for one of them!  My nearly 2-year-old is particularly fond of stories involving parents and children and this falls into this category combined with the return of the much-loved characters and the rhythmic storyline.

A firm favourite in our family! A beautiful follow-on from The Gruffalo and actually my daughter'a favourite of the two. Gorgeous, flowing rhyme makes is a perfect bed-time tale.
The story includes all the characters from The Gruffalo: my children really enjoyed re-visiting the familiar characters in a different story. The snowy setting makes it a lovely winter tale - last year I put it in my son's Christmas Eve box. The basic plot-line is that the Gruffalo's Child goes off into the woods in search of the "big, bad mouse" and encounters snake, owl and fox then finally mouse. Clever mouse uses his wits - again - to avoid being eaten and send the Gruffalo's Child back to the Gruffalo cave!
I love the fact that the main protagonist is female in this Gruffalo tale!

4 stars
I think 4 stars may be a little harsh but in my defence that is because I am comparing it to the original book, which is a supreme hit in our house. I love the main protagonist and her inquisitive nature. There is a nice use of the returning animal characters. However we found the rhythm a little jolting and both our boys didn't buy into the repetition. Still great fun and love the underdog victory of the mouse.
