Two of the biggest names in children's publishing, Michael Rosen and Chris Riddell, come together in a new poetry collection.

Two of the biggest names in children's publishing, Michael Rosen and Chris Riddell, come together in a new poetry collection. The poems in A Great Big Cuddle fizz off the page with sound and rhythm, energy and laughter, as Rosen captures in the most remarkable way what it means to be very, very young. A child's world with all its details and feelings - toys and games, animals and made-up creatures, likes and dislikes - is vividly conjured up in the most memorable, playful language, and Chris Riddell has produced some his most extraordinary pictures ever to bring this world to life. It's a book that will be enjoyed by the oldest grown-up and the youngest child - and a future classic.

I grew up reading Michael Rosen, thanks to the love of poetry that my year 4 teacher had instilled in me. I passed that onto my 4 year old, it seems.

This book is wonderful and each poem will take you on a journey or discovery and you and your children will be laughing throughout. The illustrations are charming and the content is suitable for kids young and old alike.

We were already fans of Michael Rosen when we borrowed this book and we weren't disappointed. It's a lovely book of poetry and pictures - the illustrations are of everyday things that children can relate to and the rhymes are catchy and rapidly becoming poems that I say to my daughter all the time, not just when we're at home reading. We all enjoy it as a family.

My daughter just loves this book, the poems are all fabulous, my daughters favourite is Let Me Do It, it is the first time I have heard her laugh when she has tried to read something out loud to me !! Everytime she reads it she laughs !! The illustrations are all fabulous and go so well with the poems. Would highly recommend for a 4 year old to try and read themselves.

I loved all of the poems in the book, they were very funny. My favourite poem was I Am Angry on page 38. I especially liked it because at the end he went to bed.

A beautifully illustrated book of poetry by Michael Rosen.    I have to confess that I'm a bit lost by some of the poems, but our daughter (30 months) loves them all - the dafter the better.  She keeps going back to the book again and again!    She particularly likes 'A Slow Train, Getting Slower and Slower" - she already knows the first few lines and giggles as I read it!

My 2yo loves this book so much. The illustrations by Chris riddell are bright and full of life and perfectly accompany the charming poems of Michael Rosen. My daughters favourites are tippy tappy and boing! Boing! Basically the dafter the better for her. She loves it when you get tongue tied over the words. The book itself is printed on very good quality paper and I can see it being something that will last for my future grandchildren (hopefully).

A firm favourite in this house! My daughter loves the bright, friendly illustrations and the poems make her giggle! She doesn't understand all the words, but the structure of them and the beautiful flow to the rhymes means it's one we come back to again and again. Adults will also enjoy the tongue-in-cheek poems about feeling grumpy, hungry and "let me do it"!

This is an excellent book to introduce children to poems. The pages are different colours with matching colour text which make the book more interesting. The text is very bold so this will make it very easy for a child learning to read for themselves. The illustrations are big and bold with subtle colours so making it easy to look at and talk about with a small child. The poems are certainly aimed at small children using topics they can relate to, such as a lost cuddly toy. Our three year old loved this book and can be heard saying some of the rhymes as he plays. This is fast becoming one of his favourite books and I will be looking out for more by this author and illustrator.

This is a fantastic compendium of poetry for young children from a superb wordsmith.

The rhymes are catchy and fun - perfect for engaging little ones. I'm rubbish with tongue twisters and the Button Bop nearly had me - which had my children in stitches.

The illustrations are brilliant; they captivated my toddlers from the moment they opened the book. They ar all relatable images for children so they capture their attention.

You can dip in and out of it or read several in a row: it's an absolute gem and one we come back to all of the time. A true modern classic.

This book was really funny, the poems were hard to read because they were tounge twisters and nonsense but I liked them a lot.  My mum thought the book would be to baby for me but it wasn't and although I read it all in one go I will read it again and again.  I liked the pictures too.  This book will be good for little kids if their parents read it to them but is good for 8 year olds to because we can read it our selfs.

H (2 and a bit) loved looking at the pictures in this book - they are big and bold and of things that she can easily recognise. The fact that each page contains a silly rhyme meant the book lasted ages - we could sit and read one rhyme at a time which was short enough to keep her attention and focused. She is currently at the stage where she likes to repeat words so she loved the poems with lots of repetition as she could join in too (although we have had the phrase the jelly's too smelly repeated way too often!). Because she is so young some of the meaning behind the words are clearly lost on her but she does like the sound of them. D (5 and a bit) loves the book. He wasnt the intended reviewer but he likes to sit down with us when we read and he loves all the silly rhymes. Several of them make him giggle and being older he can understand the meaning of the words - he has also taken to repeating key phrases from it. It was really lovely reading this book with both children. It can be difficult to find something that they both will enjoy but this book certainly fit the bill. I liked the fact that they were short rhymes as we could sit for 5 - 10 mins and enjoy it together. Both D & H found the rhymes funny and are enjoying saying them. The book itself is large and square so easy for little hands to hold. Some of the text is rather small fine if you are reading to them but I was trying to encourage D to read some of the words himself and he struggled with the smaller text. I'd definitely recommend the book. It's a great way of introducing rhyming words and its very colourful and easy to follow. Both children have enjoyed it.
