A rip-roaring shout-aloud picture book about a spider who wants to be the family pet from the internationally acclaimed illustrator of Julia Donaldson's What the Ladybird Heard.

Spider wants to be a family pet. But the family whose house she lives in are terrified of her! Whenever she tries to show them what a great pet she would make, they just scream, "AAAARRGGHH, SPIDER!" A delightfully funny story all about fitting in, tolerance and making friends, vibrantly illustrated by the world-famous Lydia Monks.

The illustrator of Julia Donaldson's famous titles such as The Singing Mermaid and Princess Mirror-Belle and the Dragon Pox proves she is an author in her own right with this bestselling picture book story. The perfect bedtime read for kids aged 3 and up.

Look out for Lydia's other titles: Eeeek Mouse, Go Go, Gorilla, and Where's Your Eee-Orrh? and the 'Mungo Monkey' series.

Lydia Monks is an award-winning illustrator and author, known for her colourful picture books including I Wish I Were a Dog, Aaaarrgghh, Spider! and the Mungo Monkey series. She has is also the illustrator behind Julia Donaldson's What the Ladybird Heard, The Princess and the Wizard, The Singing Mermaid and Sugarlump and the Unicorn.

My daughter's favourite saying is 'Out you go!!' Read this book and you will find out why!
This is a very fun and entertaining book which encourages your child to join in with the story. I like this book because it will hopefully encourage my child not to be scared of spiders and think of them as friendly.  A very fun, great book!

This is a great book for anyone trying to convince their children that spiders aren't scary! It explains all the things that spiders do are only them trying to be helpful/friendly. My daughter really enjoyed joining in with the "aargh spider" bits. The glittery spider web is really lovely.

This is a really lovely funny picture book. The story is told from the point of view of a spider who hopes to become a family pet. My daughter loved this book. The illustrations are bright and colourful and the story and its ending made me smile. It's a picture book i would happily read over and over again.

This is the first book that my youngest (2 at the time) really loved. He brought it home from nursery and cried when we had to take it back. He borrowed it again the following week but I eventually bought our own copy! Sam loved the repetition and knew the parts of the story where he could scream out 'Aaaarrgh Spider'! The illustrations are fab and Sam loved touching the glittery spiders webs in the middle of the book. A great book to share with toddlers over and over again.

I bought this book to read to the two year olds in my nursery as one of them had a huge fear of spiders.
The book is illustrated with bold pictures which the children loved looking at.
The children especially loved the upside down pages. After reading the book a couple of times myself and other staff members decided it was one one of our favourite story books to read to the children. It's so easy to read and flows really nicely. It kept all of the children engaged and they were all eager to go find spiders after we'd finished reading it :)
