This is a book I enjoyed as a child. I couldn't wait to introduce mog to my daughters. We are huge cat lovers so she was straight away interested to read all about mog. It's a lovely story for us all to enjoy together. Can't wait to buy more titles.

We felt very sorry for Mog always getting told off but we loved the twist at the end. We were very proud of Mog for saving the day - hurray! This book is part of the classic Mog range and we have quite a few. They are all lovely stories that have stood the test of time and enjoy being read over and over again :)

This book has been a favourite since my daughter was 2 years old. We love Mog she is a very nice, kind kitty who keeps getting into trouble for being forgetful. The words in the book are memorable and the story is heartwarming and cosy perfect for snuggling down in the evening  before bed. We never get bored of this story and we look forward to reading more of Mogs adventures.

Love all the Judith Kerr books! She can do no wrong, in my eyes! Lovely story of Mog, a cat who always gets in trouble with her clumsiness and forgetfulness, but it does eventually come in very handy when something very unexpected happens! Honestly, such a lovely book and very easy to follow. Colourful and detailed illustrations which completely captivate my little one. A much-loved book in our family, and was very happy to receive it as a baby shower gift! Lovely book!

Delightful classic story, I remember reading this book when I was little and I love that I can now read it to my daughter.
Charming and funny story of a bothersome cat called Mog. My daughter loves to join in on some parts of the story, especially when they say 'bother that cat' Mog is a lazy cat who causes trouble but is well loved by her family,
Beautifully illustrated, a great book to have in any book collection. Timeless read

A delightful and heart warming tale of a family cat. Mog is much loved by the children in the family, but her cat like ways of eating on the kitchen table and trampling flowers do not endear her to the parents. However, her curiosity leads her to prove useful to the family in the end. Beautiful drawings and gentle writing make this  charming story a joy for all children.

Mog is a beloved character from my own childhood so I was keen to share it with my own children. Happily; they seem as fond of her as I was!
This is the first in the Mog series; it tells the story of Mog, a lovable but very forgetful cat who always seems to be getting herself in trouble because of her terrible memory. After a series of catastrophes and several renditions of “bother that cat!” Mog is left alone in the garden, in the dark feeling very sorry for herself - thought happily in the prime position to stop a burglary (not that she knew that...) There is a happy ending in which the Thomas family try to be a little more accepting of her forgetfulness and only very rarely say “bother that cat”.
The subject matter was a big winner for my daughter in particular as she loves cats. They enjoy th  trouble Mog seems to cause and giggles at her mishaps (although there was some concern when she meets to big dog!)
Both children enjoy the beautiful illustrations; they are bright and set against white backgrounds so they really stand out. They seem to enjoy the classic style and I love the nostalgia!
The syntax and language are simple and makes it easy for young chikdren to follow the story. Both my 2 year old and 4 year old will happily sit and listen to the full book; though I do think the illustrations help maintain their attention.
Overall, this is a beautiful, beloved classic which starts to conversation about how we treat people and animals around us, patience and kindness. Having re-read it initially since childhood I did feel that the Thomas family was a bit harsh to Mog but equally it was a different era with slightly different norms which again opens the door to a different discussion.
All that said, this is a well-read book in our house and my kids love this mainly because of the lovable character of Mog.

‘Bother that cat!’ Mog always seems to be in trouble, she forgets that she has a cat flap and she forgets that she has already eaten her supper. But, one night, Mog’s forgetfulness might come in handy after all. Mog is a great series of books for young children, the character is so popular that it was featured in the Sainsbury's Christmas TV ad too. A lovely book to read about Mog the forgetful, but lovable cat.

Great little story about a cat that seems to annoy a family but actually saves the day for them!  My only negative is the way the cat is portrayed as being annoying when it is actually just being a family pet it maybe doesn't send out the right signals hence only a 4 star

Alex enjoyed listening to this story and how Mog was seen as a nuisance until something happened in the family home one evening.

A heartwarming tale about a pet and how they, like adults have their faults but still come good. The illustrations are traditional but my son enjoyed the life like illustrations in the story.

What a classic. Mog is such a lovely, forgetful cat but proves her worth in the end. We enjoy saying Bother That Cat all together. The illustrations are beautiful and I'm pleased that my family are enjoying it as much as I did when I was younger.

We LOVE Mog - a real charming and classic story about a loyal but clumsy and forgetful pet. my boys loved the relationship between Mog and her family - and loved how she always ends up in mischief.  a lovely book to keep on your shelf for years to come - the only negative was perhaps it felt a little too short.

I love mog books! I got a set for Christmas.

In this book, mog tends to get in everyone's way and feels sad and unwanted.  Debbie is the only one who seems to understand her so she goes to snuggle up with her one night, but Debbie is having a bad dream about active and Screams out in fright  at Mog. Mog sits outside, sad and feeling unwanted - she realises she hasn't had her supper and tried to get into the house. Here she accidentally apprehends a burglar and 'saves the day'!!! The family reward her with an egg - her favourite treat!!

Great book &  lovely illustrations. Not my favourite Mog book but still very good.

I am a bit on the fence about this book. I am still unsure how I feel about this book. The overall story line is good as it is about how this forgetful cat manages to save the day by alerting its owners to a burglar. But i don't like the way the owners are a bit rude to the cat because she is so forgetful. Sometimes I like reading this book, sometimes i don't. It is not as good as other books by this author.

My son totally adores The Tiger Who Came to Tea, so I thought we should try other books by the same author. So I got Mog, which seems to be very popular. The illustrations in this book are also very nice.
But my son wasn't very interested in the story as he was with the tiger from the very first time. I'm actually not very excited about this story as well, since I think it's quite sad the way they portray the cat and how it seems ok for the owners not to treat him very well. My son kept asking why the owners did this or that with the cat and it didn't really feel right when explaining to him why they were doing it because it didn't seem fair on the cat.
But then there is a nice happy ending, however my son kind of lost interest before that and the happy ending didn't do the effect it should on him.

Since this is a much loved classic book, I feel quite awkward in saying that my boys and I just find this book........well......a bit dull.
There is no doubt that the illustrations are beautiful and for that reason I give it two stars - because my children enjoy looking at the pictures.
While I can appreciate that the story conveys some great morals about learning to have patience and acceptance of other's faults (even if they are a cat), and there is some mild excitement at the end when Mog rumbles the burglar - my family still find the Mog books a bit flat.
As a reader, I find myself trying to charge through it to get to the end -  and often my children are already trying to turn the page before I've finished the text - which isn't something they normally do. Sadly, this book rarely gets taken off the bookcase in our house these days.
It feels so scandalous to say this about a classic - and maybe this book just wasn't for us. I think if I was looking at buying this book for my family or for a gift - then there are better picture books out there that I would buy. Just on a cat theme - I'd buy 'Cats Ahoy' by Peter Bently one hundered times over instead of this book.
Eeek...sorry Mog fans!
