When Crab finds a new shell, he doesn't want to share it with anyone - especially not a blobby purple anemone and a tickly bristleworm. But life in the rock pool proves tougher than Crab thinks and he soon finds he needs his new housemates. Available as a chunky board book that's perfect for younger readers, Sharing a Shell is a charming underwater tale of friendship and fun from the stellar picture book partnership of Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks, creators of What the Ladybird Heard . With brilliant rhythmic verse, bright and distinctive illustrations and glitter on every page, this is a firm favourite with children and parents alike. Enjoy all the stories from Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks: Sharing a Shell, The Princess and the Wizard, The Rhyming Rabbit, The Singing Mermaid, Sugarlump and the Unicorn, Princess Mirror-Belle and the Dragon Pox, What the Ladybird Heard, What the Ladybird Heard Next and What the Ladybird Heard on Holiday .

Another lovely book from Julia Donaldson, fabulous illustrations with a bit of glitter thrown in! A charming story about sharing a shell and how 2 lovely sea creatures fall out but realise they really do need friends and want to be together, great rhyming and a lovely tale. Highly recommended

A lovely story book. Bold cartoon like illsutraions. Large book. Nice rhyming story, some difficulty words for the little ones, a great tale of adventure and about learning o share, even when it's a shiny new shell. Sophie enjoyed sitting listening to this one.

Evie's words: the animals share a shell and then it gets to small and they get cross and go to their own homes. It is happy in the end, they all share again. Evie enjoyed the story about sharing and loved the illustrations in this book as they are sparkly and bright.

This is one of my all time favourites and I never get bored of reading it to my daughter! The text bobs along with a really catchy rhythm and rhyme and the story itself will be brilliant for discussing friendship and sharing when L is older. For now, she loves looking at the big, bold illustrations and touching the sparkly bits on the pages. A real winner!

Dum, dum, dum-diddy-dum
Dum-diddy-dum-diddy-dum.
The rhythm in this one's quite marvellous,
You feel all happy and free.

It's tempting to do the entire review in the matching metre but I'm not sure I can keep it up.

Yes we are skipping down the beach with Julia Donaldson in this one.  She has decoupled from Axel Sheffler thereby proving her text is a powerhouse to some excellent children's books whomever the illustrator.

The rhythm really does sweep you along and you have to admire any book that manages to squeeze in a gag such as: 'Climb on and come in - whelkome home.'
