What would you do if you were settling down for a quiet bedtime story and you realised that a crocodile had fallen into your storybook and was - not to put too fine a point on it - furious? Would you slam that book shut and cram it in the bookshelf for evermore, or would you be brave enough to peek? This very grumpy crocodile has ended up in totally the wrong book, so he proceeds to eat his way out, in this fantastic debut picture book. He tries to escape a storybook that is all wrong for him, but is great fun for the reader!

This book is brilliant, we especially liked the crocodile 'bites' out of the pages. This book came home from school with my child as part of the 'book start' set for new school children and we were really pleased at the quality of the book. It was very funny and we liked pretending that the crocodile was actually in the book!

What a great book! The children had read it before but we loved reading it all together. A lovely book that leads to effortless storytelling.

This is a superb book; really funny and very unique.

It begins as The Ugly Duckling but it quickly becomes apparent there is something else stuck in the story that shouldn't be. We find out it's a naughty crocodile who eats the letters and scares the duckling narrator! So begins a quest to get the crocodile out of the book that involves actions (rocking, shaking) until the crocodile works out how to save himself and bites his way out.

It's a hugely entertaining story; the illustrations are excellent and really add to the tale. I love the holes at the back of the book where the crocodile has eaten it's way to freedom. It's incredibly incentive and engages from the get-go. My son loves following the instructions and doing the actions. You can go a bit wild with the one and get really over the top. For solely that reason it's probably not a great bed-time book; it's a superb choice for one earlier in the day to siphon off some energy. I find my little boy really lets loose when we read this. I love that it's written in second person so it "talks" directly to the child. I think it'll become all the more entertaining and engaging the older he gets and really understands what makes the book so funny from the norm.

It's a brilliant book that I highly recommend!

This book is so clever, from the very start you think you are going to read one story to be lead into another. I love the fact that throughout the story the book interacts with you and your child. It's full of laughs and superbly written. You'll want to read this over and over again.

The book begins with the tale of the ugly duckling, but is soon hi-jacked by a crocodile that is trapped within the pages. How do you get a crocodile out of a book? By rocking it to sleep? By shaking it out? This is a surprising book with unexpected twists, which grabs the attention of children and makes them eagerly turn the page to find out what happens next. A smashing book, and one I would happily recommend.

My daughter chose this from the library. She enjoyed this book. It was easy to read, and she loved the last page where ot looked like the crocodile had bitten a hole in the page so he could escape from the book. Some bits she thought were funny, like when a skirt was drawn on the crocodile. She also enjoyed the illustrations.
