Dennis was different.

Why was he different, you ask?

Well, a small clue might be in the title of this book...

Charming, surprising and hilarious - The Boy in the Dress is everything you would expect from the co-creator of Little Britain. David Walliams's beautiful first novel will touch the hearts (and funny bones) of children and adults alike.

This book shows how boys can try the same things as girls, and no-one should be limited just because of their gender. I could not stop reading this book, I loved it!

I enjoyed reading this book to my little boy because I loved seeing his face and expressions of amazement and amusement. A very different kind of book for my son who usally goes for the Horrid Henry or Diary of a Wimpy kid like series of books. What he found really sad was that the mummy had left the daddy and the two children (he could not believe that a mummy would 'walk out' on her family. This really scared my son as he is adopted but I was glad of the opportunity to explain to him that his dad and I love each other very much and that we would never leave our 'forever family'. Another interesting thing was that my son asked if we could both dress up with my dresses, scarves and shoes and put on make up on 'just for fun'. Should have seen my husbands' face when our little 'un said this hahaha!!!!! All in all a good read, very age appropriate and thought provoking. Thank you David Walliams a brilliant, actor, comedian and now author. Will definitely read more of his books.

Dennis lives with his Dad and brother John.  His mum left them. He likes looking through Vogue magazine and playing football.  Lisa is the most popular girl in school and really wants to be a fashion designer.  Dennis lives in a very boring house!  One day, his favourite magazine changes his life.  He befriends Lisa, who persuades him to try on a dress.  This changes his life!

I have read nearly all of David Walliams’ books and it is now my joint fave (with Worlds Worst Children).  The fab illustrations are by Quentin Blake.  It is a funny story about belonging.  I love the message of the book.  It doesn’t matter your age, gender, race, religion, whether a girl wears a suit or a boy wears a dress, we should treat everybody as equal!  I was happy reading the book as it made me laugh, its a lovely story, lovely message.  Great for 8+

After reading gangster granny my daughter couldnt wait to read another from his collection. She sat reading well to herself or at times wed read together. The book was Extreamly funny and id often hear her laugh out loud to herself and shed point parts of saying ' we've got to read it'. Deffinatly worth a read for any child who likes silly funny stories.

Superb book - my 3 daughters loved the humour in this book.  Very unique and quirky.  Really opens up  the children's creative minds.
It is about a girl & boys friendship ups and downs and the boy  wearing  a dress.

Another great story from David. My son enjoyed this book telling the tale of Dennis and his family. His trials at school and Raj of course makes an appearance. I read this with my son when he was 9 years old and he enjoyed the story and cant wait for the next of David's books.

My daughter was given this as a gift when she was quite young and I started to read it to her at bedtimes but the concept at the time I didn't feel appropriate for her to hear.

Now she's 9 she has read it to me over a period of time, she liked it at the start but needed a lot of encouragement to continue with it through the middle. She did however come to enjoy it in the end! Not Walliums best book by any means but enjoyable nonetheless.

3 stars as didn't hold her attention and in fact made her less likely to read at all at one point!
