Over the years I've read this book with all 3 of my children and my youngest has just discovered it. It is a great was to teach about colours and animals. It is also good for learning about the parts of animals that make them unique - trunks, long necks, flippers etc.
It is a very clever and simple book that imparts a very important message - the best thing to be is yourself.

Watching a chameleon in a zoo, Eric Carle wondered what would happen if it could change more than its colour, and so the basis for this story was formed.  The chameleon watches other animals in the zoo and wishes to gain aspects of their characteristics. And magically, each of his wishes are granted. With each wish, the chameleon adds a part of another animal, becoming quirkier and quirkier! As well as helping children learn about animals, each animal also represents a colour of the rainbow. A fun and imaginative read, children will love the absurdity of this tale : )

We love this book, we bought it after enjoying the hungry caterpillar by the same author.

All my children love this book, it teaches the children about animals and colours of the rainbow. We played a game as we went along to see what animal the chameleon was going to be next.

We agree the best thing is just be yourself.

Not my favourite by Eric Carle but my boys like it for bed time.

Good story in the way it says that everyone is different and its important just to be yourself. Doesn't matter if your black, white, tall small etc.... JUST BE YOURSELF.
