The enchanting story of Sophie and her extraordinary tea-time guest has been loved by millions of children since it was first published 40 years ago. Now a new generation can enjoy this perennial children's classic in a mini edition.
The doorbell rings just as Sophie and her mummy are sitting down to tea. Who could it possibly be? What they certainly don't expect to see at the door is a big furry, stripy tiger!
This modern classic picture book is perfect for reading aloud, or for small children to read to themselves time and again. All artwork has been re-originated and a fresh design approach has been used for this reformatted edition.

The story seems unbelievable only to us adults, because the kids totally love it from the first time we read it and want us to read it over and over again. My son knows all the lines, even if we try to change some words he corrects us. He spends a couple of weeks reading other books and then he goes back to it. We even went to the play, and have the tiger soft toy now. A must have fantasy book for all kids and a big laugh for adults as well.

A lovely story that is enjoyed by all of the children. Using the imagination to think that a tiger could knock on the door and come to tea, changing from a fearful, scary animal to a friendly character that Sophie enjoys the company of.

My daughter is really enjoying this story at the moment, recognising the tiger and food and enjoying the story as we point out various things on the illustrations to help with her learning an development.
Alex is able to read the story to his sister and he still enjoys the story although he now thinks it is crazy that a Tiger would appear at the door and ask for t

The tiger came to tea was such a good book. My daughter love it and always ask for Sophie and the tiger. The book follows a good order even though it is ridiculous that a tiger has knocked on the door to ask for tea. However it works. The illustrations are fantastic very detailed and my little girl loves to see what the tiger is going to eat next. She thinks it funny when the tiger drinks daddy's beer. A great book for all ages up to 6 I would say.

The girls loved the title of this book, it made them laugh throughout about what the Tiger ate! My little girl is called Sophie like the little girl in the book so that made Sophie want to read it again and again

I read this story to my daughter (nearly 4) at bedtime, been her favourite for nearly a year now. She knows most of the lines and often finishes them together with me. She loves how daddy saved the day by taking family out for tea.

Judith Kerr is a fantastic author. The tiger who came to tea was one of my favourites as a kid and my daughter loves it too. It's a fantastical story about a tiger eating and drinking everything in the house and then leaving never to return. Random but endearing and although the illustration appears a little dated by today's standard it still holds up well in our house. My daughter often asks if we can get some tiger food to keep just in case!

Love this story. You really can't get a better story about a tiger, its comical and silly storyline really but one that is so loved and really makes children feel warm and happy. I think all children would love a tiger to come for tea after reading this.

Sophie and her mum sit down for tea, then the door bell rings. Teatime then takes a bizarre turn of events a classic book that should be in every child's bookcase. A tiger arriving for tea and eating everything is a page turner to see what he eats next. Brilliant
