This book is about a ghost who is trying to wake up a sleeping Lydia lou. He uses lots of different animals to try and wake her. The rhymes are really well written in that they are simple noises for young children to make but also it is very catchy.

My boys enjoy this story. It's all about a ghost trying to wake up a little girl but he needs help. So each page he adds in someone else like a cow, crying baby etc so eventually I'm acting out wooo, twit twoo, waahhh, meow etc and on and on. My 17 months old laughs so much at the noises and both of them enjoy the surprise ending.

From the author of The Gruffalo, Julia Donaldson.  A cheeky ghost tries to wake up Lydia, and it doesn't work, so he tries to get his friends to help!
The book features rhyming sentences that are repeated, and the story is built upon slightly on each page with each introduction of a new character. My children love this kind of book because it helps them remember the story, encouraging them to read along or speak out loud with me and enables them to do so for a longer period because it's memorable for them.

I like this book, it's short and sweet.

Not our favourite Julia Donaldson book by far but made a wet Sunday afternoon read interactive and very catchy. Was about a ghost waking a girl using alsorts of noises to wake her. Both my girls laughed throughout the book especially when mummy got muddled up reading it. Maybe a bit young for my daughter in reception class but very fun.

I have to admit that this is not our most favourite Julia Donaldson book. Books such as The Gruffalo or Monkey Puzzle are much better. The storyline here is basic so i suspect it is aimed at under 3s - maybe even under 2s. (My son is 4). But nonetheless, the story is stil good and my son does enjoy the ending and starts giggles. We got it for £1 when there was a sale on at our bookstore - so it has been worth it for us.

This book makes me a bit confused as I'm not sure what the author wanted to show in this book. My kids are scared of the ghosts so reading that one of them was trying to wake up a poor sleeping girl was terrifying for them. They started to ask questions whether the ghosts are standing next to them when they sleep and trying to wake them up?
It wasn't our favourite read but I give three stars for illustrations and using rhymes.

I had mixed feelings about reading this book with my two-year-old given that it's about a ghost trying to scare a sleeping child however the illustrations are very friendly so I thought we'd give it a go. She didn't seem very scared by it but she did have a lot of questions about what was happening so I decided to go with my instinct and put it to one side.
