No Christmas should be complete without a reading of this classic wintery tale.  It is especially good for the very young as it is a cartoon strip with no words.  This allows you to describe what is happening and/or for your child to put their own words to the pictures.  he whimsical pencil drawings have a dreamlike quality, and are utterly charming.
This book is also quite special for us as a family, as it is set in Brighton and the South Downs (which is where we live).  I did not realise this about the book until I got it for my own children, so it was nice to discover that.

This is a great way to introduce children to telling a story from pictures.  A great introduction to reading as well as useful for children who enjoy books and want to read on their own, but can't recognise any words yet.  The illustrations are beautiful and the story suitable for any age.  Not ideal for a bedtime story though, as there is nothing to actually read.

We love this book; it’s undeniably a timeless classic. There are no words at all and enjoyed purely through it’s beautiful illustrations.
My children love the magic of a snowman coming to life and all the adventures that brings. As we share it together, they zoom off in their only commentary and discussion about what’s happening and what they’d like to happen or do if they were there.
It’s a festive must have; perfect for any age and brilliant for encouraging speech and storytelling in children too !

An absolute classic. My daughter loves the illustrations. As there are no words she has really enjoyed talking through the pictures and exploring alternatives and what might happen next. We've shared it everyday since we got it.

Children follow the story of the snowman entirely through pictures. This means that any age can enjoy and interpret the drawings in their own way. It's easy to follow and understand the storyline through the actions and characters expressions shown. The young boy is so excited to see it snowing and rushes outside to build a snowman. It's magical as the snowman comes alive and they so much fun playing together, even flying around the world. The next day the young boy wakes to find that his new friend has disappeared and all that remains is his clothes.

We watched the Tv version of the Snowman over the Christmas holidays..... and with a brief appearance of snow last week allowing us to make our own Snowman, my daughter noticed it on the shelves (it had accompanied an ornament of the snowman) and asked me to "read it". However, its a picture only comic-strip style book... so I had to explain we had to tell the story ourselves by looking at the pictures. Ive found her a couple of times since then "reading it" to herself.

This book is a classic and is a must for any children's (and grown up!) book shelf. The entire story is told through pictures which makes it a wonderfully, interactive way to read the story with your family. The illustrations are beautiful and this book will remain a family favourite for years to come.

This is a large soft backed book so more suitable to a child who knows how to handle a book, or for a parent to share with a younger child.
It's a classic book, beautifully illustrated and totally withou words, though there's lots to talk about.
Would be a good introduction to watching the film and is the sort of book I imagine a child might return to frequently, especially near to Christmas

This book is a timeless classic - an absolute essential at Christmas, especially for very young children.
The greatest charm of this book (other than the beautiful, whimsical illustrations) is the lack of text! Children follow the story through the pictures alone, which does allow a wealth of scope and opportunity  to discuss the drawings in detail. It also lends itself to creating your own telling of the story - especially when children are older as it'lol lend itself to empathy and perspective - you could each tell the story from a different character's view-point. It's a lovely tale that can grow with your child.

This book is amazing.
I love The Snowman and it's one of my favourite Christmas films EVER.
The book is the same as the film.
It's about a boy who builds a snowman and during the night the snowman becomes real. They do things together, like ride a motorcycle through the woods and play with his toys in his bedroom but then the snowman takes him to Lapland to meet Father Christmas and he gets a present from him. The nest day when the boy wakes up the snowman has melted.
It's a lovely book and very christmasy but its also sad at the end when he melts.

A beautiful comic style book that I read to my daughter on Christmas Eve.
Lovely size, excellent illustrations, requires an adult to read the story if for younger children but my 2 year old tells her own story from the pictures!

It was lovely being able to read this book to my 5-year-old, as my Mum read it to me when I was small. My son really enjoyed trying to tell me what he thought was happening in the pictures, and it was a great way to interact with each other through the book.

It really helped to get us in the festive mood.
