This is one of our favourites, its too much for my son to read but I love to read it to him, its such a good rhyming story with plenty of meaning. If you work hard and persevere you can do anything and go anywhere you choose.
Typical Dr. Seuss style with some odd words added in just to make it rhyme!

This is a brilliant book for children of all ages. We have had it since my son was little, but occasionally we still return to it. When he was young we just read the story and looked at the colourful illustrations. Now we read it more for its uplifting message, that life is full of up and downs, twists and turns, but essentially it is what you make of it. The end of the book does say that you will almost definitely  'succeed..You will, indeed!' A useful book for motivating a despondent child.

We enjoyed reading this book, we had previously read "Cat in the Hat" so thought we would work our way through Dr Seuss's books. My son is a confident reader but had to really concentrate when reading this book due to the rhyming that can be expected from DS's books, but I think this is great as it will help him improve his reading. We both enjoyed the storyline of the book, learning about how to deal with the ups and downs life throws at you and how to be the best only you can be. A great book for reading together.

I love the sentiment of this book, with a wonderful lesson in life to keep persevering through the ups and downs of life and wonderful things can be found if you keep plodding on.  There were aspects of it which went over my daughters head a little (hence the four stars), but she enjoyed the illustrations and did get lots from the story.

I really enjoyed this book; the way the story takes you on a whimsical journey of life's ups and downs is perfect.  It was a little much for my daughter to understand, but defiantly one to keep for future reading!

Dr. Seuss sets the young man (and reader) on a wild ride through the ups-and-downs of life - encouraging you to see the potential in yourself and everyone / everything around us.... and be the best possible version of "you" that "you" can be. I bought this as someone had the pop-up version on "books a primary school reader should read".... but I think its one for an older reader... "graduating" onto the next phase - be it secondary school, university, first job, marriage etc... It's a bit deep for a 3 yr old (hence the 3 rating... it would be a 5 for an older child).... but she did like the pictures of all the monsters / dragons (aka Seuss' made up animals)!

This is our first book from Dr. Seuss. I wanted a book after seeing that so many people seem to love his books, however this seems to be a book for older kids, my son liked the illustrations and asking questions about them, but he couldn't really understand the story. I did like the story as an adult, but I just thing it's just too abstract for small kids. However if your kid is in a phase of liking rhymes and he you or want to practice it, then this might be a good book, because there are always like 3 rhymes, one after the other, which make it quite easy for them to spot them. So we have read the book more than once, but with this in mind. In terms of the actual story, we will probably try and read it again in some years time.
