"Wise old man, won't you help me, please? My house is a squash and squeeze." Visit the farm in the brilliantly funny A Squash and a Squeeze , the first ever picture book written and illustrated by the unparalleled picture book partnership of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffa lo . A little old lady lives all by herself in her house but she's not happy - it's just too small, even for one. Whatever can she do? This edition features the classic story with a stunning, redesigned cover and beautiful finish, making it a must-have addition to the bookshelves of all Donaldson and Scheffler fans - big and small! A little old lady grumbles about how small her house is.... and the wise old man advises her to take her animals one-by-one into the home. As the house grows more cramped, with the animals breaking things and not getting along... the woman's complaints increase. When the wise man advises her to take them all out, returning her to her normal state - she finally appreciates all that she has, after experiencing how bad things could be. Lovely moral tale.

Another amazing rhyming story from Julia Donaldson. The old lady has a small house so she sees a wise old man with a cunning plan...she fills her house up with various animals so it is a squash and a squeeze, and then one by one she gets rid of them u til her house seems so much bigger than at the start. Very entertaining!

I really enjoy reading the rhymes and whilst my daughter is still too young really I wanted to read it until the end. The lady found the house too small and asked an old wise man for help. She couldn't understand how introducing different animals into the house helped the situation until the end when she was left alone. She soon appreciated the extra space and in fact her house was no longer a squash and a squeeze! It's great to show kids that often we want more or something better but if we change our perception we realise that we are already blessed with what we have.

I read this to my 4 month old twins. They loved the pictures and the large size (especially the page at the front with lines of animals) and the rythm of the lines made them smile. Great stimulation for them both visual and auditory and I enjoyed the story as I hope they will as they get older!

A really lovely story about learning to appreciate what you already have. The characters of the little old lady and the wise man are nice and simple and funny. My three year old twin girls love this book and have memorised all the rhyming text. The illustrations are superb and the story a delight from start to finish.

I really like this story as it has a thought provoking message which is conveyed with lovely humour. The main character is an old lady who thinks her house is too small. An old man decides that he needs to reach her a valuable lesson about appreciating what you have. It's written beautifully and can definitely be appreciated by young children and their parents alike. The illustrations are gorgeous too.

Beautifully designed and illustrated.
Funny story of a old lady who thinks her house is too small. She brings in different animals until she decides her house wasn't as small as she thought.
Great rhyming story. My daughter loves to look at the pictures whilst I read the story to her. And even sometimes joins in saying the words

Another lovely story by Julia Donaldson about a lady who feels that her house is too small. After taking in all her various animals to the point where she has no space left she soon realised that once they are all out that she does in fact have plenty of space! Typically colourful illustrations to accompany the story perfectly

This book is a delight and teaches us to appreciate what we have. It is so much fun to see a little house become full with crazy animals to then sad be empty again and the house a bit lonely.
Wonderful rhyming pictures and concept as all ways from this fab author.
