Part of the classic Mog series by Judith Kerr (author of 'The Tiger who came to Tea'), this story is about Mog the cats first ever Christmas. Mog is scared by the changes that Christmas brings - the decorations and a tree that appears to both walk and talk! She escapes by hiding up on the roof off the house - which makes her family sad. Will she ever come down and learn to live Christmas?
This book (and series) is slightly similar to the Alfie books by Shirley McHugh in that both capture ordinary family life in a quite charming way. A very sweet book.

We got this book last Christmas but didn't get to read it much. This Christmas it has been a bedtime favourite and Georgie loves it. She worries about Mog getting cold and ill by being outside and is glad when she comes inside and enjoys the celebrations.
I like the message of the book as for some people all of the change and different routine at Christmas can be difficult. This book helps us to understand that it is ok to feel like that

This is one of our favourite Mog books, Mog is very disorientated by all the Christmas goings on, and runs to ride on the roof when she finds a talking walking Christmas tree. We always have a laugh at how Mog finds her way down from the roof in the end.

A delightful story. The book is a story about bringing people together when it's needed the most. Silly mog accidentally starts a fire on Christmas Eve whist dreaming. The neighbours hear about the fire and all the damage it's caused and rally around with food and presents for the Brown's.
very touching story, another great mog book!
My daughter really enjoyed it and finds it very funny when mog gets an egg for dinner.
Highly recommend this book

My son age 8 read this book to me and I have to say we both thoroughly enjoyed it. The storyline of this book is great with some parts being humourous, my son got the giggles when Mog saw the walking tree which then proceeded to talk. Poor Mog was scared to come indoors but eventually it all turned out OK. This is a great Christmas story that can be enjoyed by all ages. The character of Mog is fantastic.

I got this for my 3year old as her book for her Christmas eve box. I saw it and thought she would like this Christmas story as its about a cat, and she loves animals, and because we know a cat called mog that lives nearby and visits us and he looks similar to the mog in this book. It's Christmas and there are lots of changes in mog's house which she doesn't like; noises, lots of people, a tree, decoration and outside snow. Mog stays outside and falls asleep, and everyone in the house is sad as Not hasn't come for her breakfast. Mog lands into the house down the chimney and everyone is happy to see her. She is given a bath and presents to unwrap. It's a lovely story that my daughter enjoyed, with great illustrations. We have read it even though it's not Christmas, so it's a book she will enjoy all year round.

You can't help but think "oh Mog" when reading this and all the trouble this poor, much loved cat gets into.  Poor Mog finds the whole experience of Christmas a little overwhelming and a bit scary, from the tree coming into the house to all the extra people busying themselves with the Christmas preparations.  To escape it all Mog climbs up onto the roof...and of course, in true Mog style gets stuck!
This book is full of mis-adventures and how the families much loved cat escapes another troublesome situation. You can't help but love the stories of Mog.
